Yuck!

It wasn't a very good day at the nursing home today. The flu (the vomiting kind) has struck there, with a vengeance!
We had a few people sick on Saturday, Sunday more residents got it and a few staff. Today it got worse. About 1/4 of the residents are sick, half of the aides that were supposed to work this morning called in and one of the afternoon nurses called in.
This means people are working extra and working very hard when they are there.
Today we tried to keep our residents in their rooms as much as possible to avoid passing of the bug. We are washing our hands even more than we usually do - and that's a lot! We also put a note on our front door, discouraging visitors. This protects both the residents and the visitors, but some people still want to come in. I'm praying that this won't be too much for some of our frail people. They don't tolerate sickness nearly as well as they did when they were younger.
If you have avoided the flu so far this year - be thankful!

Mari,

I'm sorry that your residents have the flu. It's so easy for the elderly to come down sick and so hard for them to get over it.

I haven't had the flu but did have that nasty sinus and ear infection that just wouldn't give up. I'm much better now and am feeling more like myself, but some symptoms remain.

I just saw the post below and enjoyed the collage. It looks about the same here. I love the winter birds. I just wish I could lure more species to my property.

Take care and be careful. You don't want to come down with that flu. I hope you had your flu shot.

Blessings,
Mary

Bless their hearts. I hope too that you can somehow avoid the bug and stay well. The snow collage below is so beautiful.

We're in State College again, so stop by for some really adorable pictures.

I am praying you stay well and thankful for your service to all those people who need help. It's a special person that loves to take care of the "senior crowd" and I know you are appreciated by many.

This stuff went around our house (and our daughter's, where I believe TG and I picked it up) the week before Christmas. I lost three whole days to violent vomiting and then trying to recover. I was as sick as I've been in a very long time. I don't know how the elderly residents survive an illness like this. I hope you don't get it, Mari, from taking care of them (although I know you don't look at it that way). I have prayed today for you and your patients! Take care of yourself!

You're right: YUCK! I am generally terrified of the flu. In 2003/2004 (New Year's, haha), I came back from a mission trip to New York with 103 degree fever and a pretty nasty flu. It was rotten. I was doing shots of dayquil in the church we were staying at.

Isn't it terrible?! Both my girls (nurses) are working understaffed. My one daughter is working 10 hours a day and is on her 9th day straight.
Praying for that hedge of protection around you and yours that you don't get sick or bring it home to share! Also praying for those precious people you care for.

Oh Mari... I'm so sorry. I pray it is a fast moving flu. My boys were hit with a stomach bug that only caused them to throw up once and moan for 4 hours after. Then they were up and at em. (Still hoping little girl doesn't get it.)

Love you dear.
