New Years Eve

We have a New Years Eve tradition of getting together with Bob's brother Tom and his wife Bonnie. We have always had the kids with us. We make a bunch of appetizers and have supper together, then play games, watch movies and talk until the ball drops.
This year was different. Our kids are getting older, two of them are out of the country and the others had other plans. It was just us old folks this year!
We decided that instead of making all that food for just four of us, we would go out for supper and then go back to Tom and Bonnie's for the rest of the evening.

Here is the little snack table we had set up with cheese, crackers, dip and of course a little chocolate!
We had a good time watching some old family videos. Tom has always been good at taking videos of family events and these were of all the kids when they were babies and young kids. What fun it was to relive those memories!

Here's Bob looking a little sleepy, shortly before midnight!

Tom and Bonnie, waiting for that ball to drop!

Here is our sparkling juice - ready for midnight!
Things were a little different this year, but we had a good time. We'll see what next year brings!

One of these years you guys will have grandchildren with you while the middle generation goes out on the town! Celebrations do go through phases as the family changes.

As our children get older and have lives of their own, our life changes too doesn't it! We experienced some of the same at our house this year. I've been saying "Christmas was very nice...just different."

Happy New Year Mari to you and yours!

It's the cycle of life. Families get smaller then bigger, but always changing, and each change brings something good, but we have to be careful not to think too long on "what was".
I wish I had thought of home movies...I forget about them and when I do bring them out, it's so much fun!

Isn't it funny how things can change in just a year? Here's to 2009... God bless you, Mari! :)

Even though the kids were doing their own thing, it looks like you four really enjoyed the evening.

We never stay up to watch the ball come down. I don't even know if there is a ball!! Ha! Ha! Maybe I saw it one time.

We had our traditional shrimp supper. It wouldn't be New Year's Eve around here with these men if we didn't have shrimp.
Blessings,
Cheryl

Mari,

Things change over the years. This New Years, as with the last three, I was alone. Hubby had left for work just before midnight. Shortly thereafter, I was tucked in bed.

Thanks for the well-wishes. I've been lying around all day and took several naps. Though I still feel terrible, I am bored, so thought I'd drop by and visit a couple of people.

I enjoyed your New Years Eve photos. Looks like it was a good time.

Blessings,
Mary

Sounds perfect to me. I love the idea of the old movies. We have tons of old slides that Dave took when our girls were little. Our projector's bulb is broken and we can't find anywhere to get a new one. I think I kids would love watching them.

Happy New Year and many blessings.

I like the relaxing part of this - we were the same with old movies, munchies, eating out, not doing a lot and not dressing up

Happy Holidays!

We were at friends house new year's eve and my "party like a rock star" hubby fell asleep on their couch for 2 hours. In his defense though he had driven through the night to get back from Texas so that I didn't have to sit home alone. I had told him that if he was too tired we could stay home but he said he'd be fine. Guess he isn't as young as he used to be. LOL.

Chocolate is a must!

You know, we just hang out at home too. We fix snacks for the kids and us (and this year the in-laws) and watch tv, usually bowl games. The kids look forward to it every year.
