Day 3 - Colonial Williamsburg

Our family has always liked history and have thought it would be fun to go to Colonial Williamsburg. Last Friday, we were finally able to visit. We weren't disappointed in our time there. There is so much to see that we could have easily spent 2 days there. I picked out just a few of my pictures to share with you.
This is the gateway in front of the capitol building. All the people who work in Williamsburg are wearing authentic costumes. I felt like I was stepping back in time.

.
This is the Capitol building. We had a really interesting guide in this building who made history come alive for us. I learned a lot more about the reasons for the Revolutionary War than I knew before.

.
This is the one of four jail cells. Blackbeards pirates were kept in this jail. I found a few rough looking characters to throw in myself!

.
We had lunch at The Kings Tavern. This was a very busy place during colonial times. It was a favorite of George Washington's.

.
I had to take a picture of our table, with the pewter serving pieces. The small bowl with the spoon on is the salt and the larger one holds sugar. The menus looked old and the servers were in authentic garb. Lunch was delicious!

.

We were able to tour the church that has been there since 1715. This church had George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry as some of it's members.

.
There were lots of beautiful buildings to look at.

.

If you ever get a chance to visit, I recommend it. We had a great time!

My hubby and I went to Colonial Williamsburg in 1976. Amazingly, all the pictures of buildings look just like I remember them! Maybe we'll get to go sometime since Ray lives down there now.

We spent a long weekend there one December and loved it! They had fires burning in the middle of the street so you could stop and warm up. We loved King's Tavern. What a great way to learn some history.

I would really love to go there sometime- it looks really neat and what a great learning opportunity.
I love the church that had the name tags of some of it's members.
PS- I only see one rough looking character in that picture and it's NOT Andy!

Ha! Ha! Cheri is funny! Does she always give Bob a hard time?

I love all the pictures. Sometime in the '80's when our children were young, we took them to Williamsburg. We got as far as the gate, and they cried and begged not to go in. They didn't want to look at "old stuff."
We didn't go in because we didn't want to waste the money. We thought some day after they are grown, we might go back, just the two of us. Now I think we are too old! Ha! Ha! Maybe we could ride around in our wheel chairs. (Just kidding.)

I loathed history as a kid but the older I get the more interested I become. I have wanted to go to Williamsburg since I was in my 20s - your pictures make me want to go even more. Thanks for sharing and I'm so glad y'all had a great time together. Hug that boy tight for me... I wish he'd get to stay with you longer!
