Our trip - day 1

I have to warn you all that you will have to deal with a few days of pictures - I can't do this in one post! We had a great time, had beautiful weather and lots of fun. Here are the highlights of day one. As many of you know it was my first time flying. We left around 9 in the morning, had one flight change and arrived in Newport News by 1:30 in the afternoon.
This is one of the pictures I took out the window of the plane. The flight was smooth and I was able to enjoy the beauty outside that window. I was really struck by how small we are when you get up in the air. Yet, God watches over and cares for each one of us!
When we arrived at the airport, our luggage was all there. We went to pick up our rental car and found that we had been upgraded. The car we got was brand new, had only 500 miles on it and satellite radio was included. It made it so easy to find music we liked. Since we had the afternoon, we thought we might make a quick trip to Jamestown. That wasn't meant to be. We got on the highway and soon found that it was a parking lot. After inching along for some time, we realized we wouldn't make it in time and decided to take the next exit. As we exited, we saw some huge statues off to our left and decided to see what they were. This place is called the Presidents Park and it has statues of each of our presidents. It also has the plane that was Air Force One when Reagan was president. Each statue has facts about the president listed, but also some quotes from them which were really interesting.

Here is the entry to the park.
Here is the statue of Lincoln. Bob is standing in front of him to show the statue size.

As I mentioned in my post last week, Andy surprised us and showed up at the hotel at night. Here are Bob and Andy, enjoying some time together.
Tomorrow I'll tell you about graduation.

I'm not real big on flying, but it is incredible when you look down on the earth and see how everything is laid out and how great God is. The bad part is getting stuck in the airplanes bathroom...yes, I did that and it will never happen again..ahhhhh!

I'm excited to hear about Andy's graduation. I was thinking about you.

Wow, those statues are incredible. My aunt, a retired history teacher, would love to see those I'm sure. Thanks for sharing the photos. I look forward to seeing more.

You were right when you told me about the Presidents- they do look exactly like the park we went to in South Dakota.
It was so good to see Andy yesterday- I can't wait to see the pictures of graduation.

You had some great travel luck. Those president statues are NEAT. :)

What fate, to find such a historical park, right up your ally. Traffic jams have a purpose at times.. That is a cool place.. Andy and Bob look like they are having fun too.

You are right about our size from a plane. As I looked down and saw that cars were the size of a big gnat and couldn't see people, I thought, "And God CARES about our problems?"

You really didn't miss a thing. I was disappointed in Jamestown. When we were there back in the '80, there were only foundation corners where the houses used to be. I think the President Park would be a lot more interesting.

Andy looks good, and he looks happy! Can't wait to see his graduation.

I'm excited for you! I really liked that detour you took----how neat to see those statues of the Presidents!

And that surprise would have me in tears too. :)

I'm a sucker for pictures so I'll be here to view them all. :)

And I love the picture out the plane window. I did the same on our trip to Disney. (And well, ever time I fly for that matter.)

Your son is handsome my friend. I can't wait to see the graduation pics. :)

The photo taken out of the plane window is awesome. I've only flown a few times but each time I am thrilled with the awesome wonders of the sky. I've been in the air during a snowstorm, thunderstorm and a sunset. All are beautiful veiws of the wonders of the Earth.

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to photos of the graduation.

If you have never been to Disney's Animal Kingdom, please be sure to put it on your destination list. It is awesome and don't miss Sea World.

Only you can appreciate the beauty out of the window - I love that - I see a large metal object that may fall out of the sky any minute with me in it!

OMG - you aren't flying home are you?
