A Day in my life

It's 2018!  It's hard to believe another year has gone by.  Here's how I spent the first day of 2018.

This picture was taken before midnight, but I forgot to take one after midnight, so I thought I would show you our New Years Eve gathering.  We went to Bob's brother and sister-in-laws house for the evening, made supper there and had a nice time bringing in the new year with them.

They live close to us, so we weren't out too late.  I was in bed shortly after 1.

I slept in until almost 9 and then had a quiet start to the day. It's so nice to be able to have a quiet morning.  A friend gave me this Francine Rivers devotional for Christmas and I started it today.  I've always enjoyed her fiction and I can see that this is going to be good too.

I used my new Instantpot to cook some eggs for the upcoming week.

In the meantime, poor Bob was outside using a roof rake to clean the snow off our roof. After that it was time to snow blow the driveway again.

I've been doing a lot of cleaning things out since putting the Christmas things away.  This is Alaina and Ruby's room, but it's been a catchall of all sorts of things during the Christmas season.  I sorted it all out and Bob brought up this old school desk that he had fixed up for our kids to use when they were young.  I think the girls will enjoy drawing and coloring on it.

I cleaned this cabinet out too.

And I worked on the closet in the room too.  I store all sorts of things in it.

While I was cleaning things out, I had the washing machine going and got 2 loads done.

I also cleaned out this cabinet in our family room downstairs.  I keep some paper products, cups, tablecloths... in these cupboards to use when we have groups over, and they had gotten quite jumbled. It feels so good to have them organized and I really enjoy doing it!

While I was doing this, Bob was working on his latest carving.

I had started some vegetable soup in the crockpot in the morning.  We had that with some cheese toast for supper.  We relaxed and watched a movie while we ate.

We had a nice relaxing evening.  It was a very good day to start the year with!

I think January brings out the cleaning and organizing in our genes.:) I plan to go room by room and really purge and clean. The girls will enjoy having a special place to color and do crafts. My grands love to get in Nana's craft room.

I love a quiet New Year's eve as I like a quiet and slow start to the new year. You have a lovely and organized home. It also looks like you have a lot of space so it's good that you are one who doesn't need to fill up every space. I moan the fact I don't have many storage places and not enough room. I am not sure I wouldn't fill up all the space if I had a larger place so I'm happy to have what I have and slowly get rid of things I've inherited or accumulated. I'm glad to see you've used your new Instant Pot. I think you will like it. I know I prefer it to a slow cooker but if you like both the Instant Pot also does slow cooking :-)

I can hardly wait to get back on my feet and do some sorting out and cleaning. I have always loved cleaning and organizing.

I have never seen a roof rake! I guess you would need one for all that lake effect snow. I bet they sell roof rakes at Bob' hardware store.

I enjoy cleaning and purging. It always feels like something big has been accomplished. ☺️ As for the snow I just mentioned to Mark last night that he needed to look into one of those roof shovels. Our neighbors pole barn roof collapsed yesterday so Mark's worried about the weight on ours and mentioned "climbing up there to shovel it off". That's just crazy talk. 😕

Poor Bob...my husband and son have the job of cleaning off snow too...I will have to look for that InstaPot, I had no idea that existed.

Its negative 26 with snow squalls here and they have closed the schools today...stay warm, Mari. smiles

I have been cleaning out and reorganizing too. Maybe a new year does that for us. I do not know about the Instant Pot...what does it do different from crock pot or something similar? Seems everyone got one for Christmas but me! Having to clean the roof and driveway is a hard cold job for sure. The soup looks good and would be warming after a busy day. Stay warm and safe.

You look like you're all ready for the new year. I'm catching up on blogs today. The snow pictures from one of your recent posts are beautiful. We've had very little snow so far this season, so I really enjoyed your photos.

It does feel good to get Christmas put away for another year, and I re-organized our kitchen pantry. Feels so good to have that project done!

What a wonderful New Years day!! I love being busy and doing things with family and friends, but an occasional boring and productive day at home is just what I need to recharge. I have a lot of places in this little house that need to be reorganized.

I'm feeling quite lazy after reading this. Thanks a lot, Mari! :)

Seriously, I know it must feel so good to have gotten so much done. I still have to take Christmas down, but I have a good excuse; I haven't been here. lol

What a wonderful day ... starting with sleeping in until nine! I'm so glad you got to do that. TG and I love to eat supper in front of the TV. Also about all the organizing ... it's great but I echo Bob's sentiment: You don't know when to quit! Hahaahaha xoxo
