Fire!

Grand Rapids is the home of the Whitecaps, a minor league ball team that's affiliated with the Detroit Tigers. They have a beautiful ball park and we usually go to a game with Bob's work every summer.
I was driving to the grocery store on Friday when I heard that the Whitecaps ball park was on fire!

Looking across Grand Rapids, you can see the fire for miles.

The exit off the highway.

The part that burned was where souveniers and food was sold.  There were also private boxes for watching the game and offices.  Apparently the fire was started by a space heater.  There were 30 people working who all got out without injury.

As the smoke lifts, you can see the damage.

The extreme cold made the job of putting out the fire much more difficult.

The work of rebuilding will begin soon - they play to start playing in April.

What a shame. (Looks a little like our Tincaps stadium in downtown Fort Wayne.)

Now that's sad!!! To see the damage like that. But it's a good thing no one got hurt in the blaze.

What a shame and sad too. Hope the weather cooperates a little so they can get it built back before the season opens.

It looks so cold there! The firemen are brave men to work in such cold conditions. You really got some good pictures of it.

I heard about this tragedy. So glad no one was hurt. I hadn't heard that a space heater started it. Hope they can make repairs in time for the season to start this spring.

Incredible. I did not know this. What a blessing that nobody was hurt. Amazing what firefighters face in the north in winter. True heroes!

we've been watching that the US is going through some crazy weather. Even we have been affected by it - teachers for the school were not able to make it back on time for the start of school. they were stranded in Chicago and Colorado.
I hate fires - that's sad about the ball park but thankfully no one got hurt.
stay warm.
p.s. hope your granddaughter feels better soon too.
