I know many of you also experienced the Blizzard that hit us last week. It was one widespread storm!
On Wednesday we had 18 new inches of snow and everything was closed. There were 1154 closings on our local station.
One place that never closes was the Nursing Home where I work. I knew I would need to get to work. Heather works as a cook there, so she needed to get in as well. My Blazer is a 4 wheel drive, so we figured we could do it.
We bundled up, taking extra clothes along since we didn't know how long we would have to stay and took off...
and got stuck in the driveway!
On top of the 18 inches, was the wind which had created huge drifts and one was at the end of the driveway. Bob had to do some snow blowing and we left again.
We had to drive for several miles following 2 tracks, before we got to a road where a plow truck had done a little plowing. When we got to the road the Nursing home is on, we were in trouble again. It was filled with snow. I didn't dare to go too slow or I would have gotten stuck again.
Finally I made it - a little late, but there!
We were a little short staffed, but not bad. One of our aides had taken in a big 4 wheel drive truck and had been out picking people up. Several people had gotten stuck at the end of the road the Nursing home is on and she rescued them too.

By the afternoon, the sun was out. The afternoon staff was able to get in and I got to go home on time!Here's Bob clearing a path to his workshop. The snow is almost as tall as his snow blower!

I'll bet you are, ready for spring! I've never worked a job where people depended on me to get to work, no matter what the weather. I'm sure the residents at the nursing home are very grateful for employees like you!

We got a couple of HUGE storms last winter (Huge for VA) but I don't recall anything like that. Even this year we actually got a few snow storms in December!! Ours usually waits until January for our typical 2-4 inches. (excluding last year and this year) If I remember correctly, last year we had a few 8-10 inch storms!
Usually we end up with and inch of ice. Much worse for driving and no where near as beautiful.

I am SO ready for spring. Now that our snowblower is in the shop, I"m praying extra hard for now more snow!
My daughter had to stay at a friends house near the hospital to try to make sure she could get to work. She made it, no problem. The hospital offered to put the nurses and staff up over night, but that didn't appear to her! LOL!

This year I'm joining your 'Ready for Spring' group!!! You've really been hit hard and are very brave to have traveled to work. I have worked in a huge Children's Hospital in '64 where the day shift had to stay for the night. We had tunnels to the nursing school & dormitory where emergency cots were set up and staff slept and worked in shifts. Not a hitch and now a fun memory! Excellent to be prepared! Hope this all melts soon!
You have some serious drifts! I love the pictures of the clean path made by your snow blower. It really shows off the depth of the snow.

OMGosh, Mari!!! What a bunch of nasty white stuff in your area! Good gravy, I could NOT live in that kinda area anymore...why, this looks like what we had to contend with in Colorado Mtns. Yes....begone Winter!!! Come on Spring...summer even. I'd go for a nice warm, balmy day of 90 right now, after viewing that.

It is a shame you and Heather had to go out into the weather that day. The snow is so beautiful! Wish you could have stayed home and enjoyed it.
Bob's snowblower looks amazing! I bet he is really glad for it otherwise he would be doing a lot of shoveling. If he is like Alan, he enjoys his snowblower.

Wow! That's some serious snow! I was hoping for some of that, but we just got major ice, which knocked out power for days!
Those pictures look like it did here last winter in the DC area. So far we have been spared this winter. Safe travels in all that snow!
