A Day in my Life

I feel like every month sneaks up on me lately, but July really did!  It's been such a cool and rainy Spring, that it really doesn't feel like July can be here yet.
Here's how my day went.

The day started early.  I was sleeping nicely when my phone rang at 4:10am.  This is my on call week - it starts at 8 am Monday, and goes to the next Monday at 8am.  As I wasn't on call, I didn't have my phone by the bed, so I had to go running for it.  When I answered it, I found it was our new 11-7 nurse who thought I was on call.  She was calling to let me know one of our residents had passed away.  I couldn't be mad at her - it was her first night!
When I went back to bed, I couldn't get back to sleep for a bit, but finally did.  The alarm went off at 6 and I was out the door at 7.

It was such a beautiful morning!  This is our corner, sunshine and a little mist - so pretty!
I got to work about 7:10

Every Monday one of our doctors comes and spends the morning doing admissions.  Our skilled nursing unit is very busy with people coming for rehab.  They often stay for about 2 weeks, so there is a constant turnover.

I gather the charts, recent vitals, labs and write notes with any pertinent information.
The Dr reviews the chart which can take some time.  Then we go to see the resident.  He then adds that info to his admission paperwork, I enter new orders, print them and let anyone who is a guardian or patient representative how the visit went, and then document each visit.

Dr N left about 12:30, I got my lunch and had it at my desk while I finished charting on his visit.

When I finished that I had to do a few Monday tasks.  Every Monday I have to fill out an online form for our County to report any new infections or diseases.  None to report this week!
Then I had to do the weekly order for feeding tube supplies, catheter supplies, dressings...

Another thing I started was our monthly online training classes.  We usually have about 4 new ones every month and they have to be done by the 20th, so it's good to get started right away.

I had a few family members stop in to see me, had quite a few phone calls, was out on the unit to talk to the nurses, worked on infection control monitoring and before I knew it, it was 5pm.

I left a little after 5 and stopped at the grocery store.

I signed up for something at our store called Fast Lane.  It lets me choose my groceries the night before, choose a pick up time and then stop at the store, call them and they bring it to the car.  I got a subscription for this that cost $39 for one year!  It is well worth that for the time I save every week. I was there at 5:15, and driving back out at 5:22.

It was a beautiful drive home - 85 degrees and sunshine!

Bob had the day off and had put a freezer meal into the oven, so when I got home we put the groceries away and supper was ready.

After supper Bob said we had to take a walk around the yard, since some new things were blooming and he had been working on a project.

Another of our clematis is blooming.  You can't tell it here, but the flowers are smaller than most clematis.  There are a lot of them and it looks so pretty!

And here is Bob's project!  It's a stylized wooden sculpture he calls Hope.  It's a man and woman, looking to the east, taken from the verse in Luke 21:28 - "then look up and lift your heads, for your redemption draweth near".

Here's the back, with the name and the handprint he marks his work with.  It looks really nice out in his woodland garden.

Then it was back inside, time to relax, so a little reading and some blog reading.

It was another good day!

I can only imagine working where you work...I wish our facility here had caring nurses and staff. I'll just leave it at that, sigh.

That is pretty cool about the grocery store. I like that idea, smiles

Pretty cool project, Bob!! smiles

It amazes me all of the different things your job entails at the facility, Mari. I was blessed that you weren't mad at the newbie on the job when she called you around 4:00 in the morning.

Your clematis is just so pretty and delicate and I love Bob's latest wood project! He is so talented.

First of all, I love Bob's project. The simple lines give such a peaceful vibe to the sculpture and what a marvelous inspiration, Luke 21:28. Something more to make your new garden space perfect:)
You need a spot like this in your garden after the day that you put in at work. When you are responsible for so many dear souls and their well being, it can take a lot out of you. I love the fact that you have a husband that understands that and that helps by starting dinner.
God bless you both,
Oh, before I forget, I love that first photo. The morning mist and that huge shade tree . . . such a pretty neighborhood. I miss the Midwest, it will always be home in my heart.

Your patients and staff are so blessed to have you doing all that you do for them. Bless you. I haven't done the order and pick-up thing yet. Publix does it and so does Walmart. I'm sure it would save me money because I pick up lots of things not on my list. Your very talented and creative husband has created another beautiful piece. Oh my goodness, it is perfection.

You're one of the busiest people I know, Mari. Whew, that was quite a Monday!

Bob's wood working talent is amazing! So beautiful.

As usual I'm all but speechless at Bob's mastery of wood and the truths he brings to life with his carvings. Notice I said "all but" because if Bob truly rendered me unable to speak, THAT would be a bigger deal than the carvings, haaaahahahaha knowwutImean? BUT they are exquisite and SO tenderly done and I love that, just love it. Can't get over it. Also yes, July ... or as I prefer to think of it, almost September. Haahaha xoxo

My, but you do have busy days, Mari! What a lot to keep up with... Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your Monday... I love the idea of being able to simply pick up your groceries. That must really save you time...especially when you've already put in a full day! The wood sculpture your husband made is beautiful...what a lovely idea!
Hugs and love...blessings on the Fourth!

You always have such busy days. I've noticed the "Click and Collect" way of shopping in supermarkets is taking off here in the UK too.

Love Bob's project.
