Works for me Wednesday

It's time for Works for me Wednesday again. For lots of great tips, head over to Kristen at We are THAT Family.

My tip for you today is to freeze celery. Of course, this doesn't work to eat plain, but when you need chopped celery for soup or a casserole it's great!
When our store has celery on sale for a great price, I buy several packages and chop them all up. I then freeze it flat on a cookie sheet, and once it's frozen, I put it in a freezer bag. I can then take out as much as I want and it's not in a solid chunk.
I don't know about you, but I often end up throwing out celery from my refrigerator as I never use the whole thing, so this saves waste and it makes it really easy to use when you need it.

I freeze rhubarb the same way. Funny, my rhubarb is so green it looks just like your celery!

Know first hand that this is a great idea! Have been doing it for years. Even though I don't need as much as when the kids were all home, I still do it - especially to have on hand for soups.

Yes, yes....freezing like you do on cookie sheets really makes a whole lotta sense.

Wonderful share for us all today, Mari.

PS...I didn't know the Little Blue Herons went up that far North....While in Grand Haven, I saw a few Great Blue Herons...and yes, I agree with you, they are magnificent birds.

This is a great idea and works good for onion too. It's so nice to pull that out while cooking and not have to do all the dicing when you're in a hurry! Thanks, Mari.

Why have I never thought of this? I have been doing it with green and red peppers, but never for celery. Also and big "duh" to me for not thinking of freezing it on the cookie sheet first.

And, I also toss out slimy celery way too often. Great tip ~
