Hooray - it's May! Here's my usual first day of the month post sharing how I spent the day.
When I got up in the morning, I started by heading downstairs for a 40-minute walk on the treadmill.
After walking, I went back upstairs. Here's how things looked in the backyard. It was a cloudy day and cool; 40 degrees Fahrenheit at 8am.
Then I got ready for the day, had my boiled egg for breakfast and went back downstairs to start a load of laundry.
Something I do every morning is an app called Happy Color. I do the daily one they put out, but there are other choices as well. Here's the one for May 1, before and after coloring.
After that, I helped Bob take the headboard off our bed. He's going to be doing some work in our bedroom and was trying to make a little room to work by moving our queen bed around. It's not a big room so every bit helps.
After we got that done, I went to the eye doctor. I had an appt the week before and ordered new lenses. They were in so I needed to stop and get them put into my frames. It didn't take too long and I was back out the door. The new glasses work well!
Before going home, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few items.
Then I went home; it was lunch time and I had cottage cheese with blueberries and raspberries. If you've never tried that, it's a real treat.
I've shown this before, but every other month, I do a newsletter called The Lightkeeper for our church, that highlights people and things that have been going on. This is the month for it, and it needed to be put into the member mailboxes. Bob came along to help stuff them.
Here's the mailboxes. It's double sided so there are an equal number of slots on the other side. These mail slots get lots of use!
Here's a few pages of The Lightkeeper so you can see what it's about. The top photo highlights a couple from our church. They've been married for 66 years and have a great testimony. The bottom page is about the Pinewood Derby that happened last week. The kids work on making cars and there is a big race at the end of the year. It's such fun!
We enjoyed our drive home. It was still cloudy, but the flowering trees are blooming and are beautiful. This is a Redbud and we saw a several of them on the drive.
Things are starting to really pop up on the trail along the side of the house.
Grape hyacinths are so pretty!
When I was at the store, they had ground beef on sale, so I bought 5 pounds. I often buy it on sale, then brown it all. I drain the grease and rinse it, then package it in one pound packages and freeze it. It makes it very easy to use when needed.
I then spent some time on the Bible study I'm doing. I'm finding this one very good - and convicting too!
Shortly after 4, Bob and I headed out to get supper. We usually have a date night on Friday. As you can see, it was still dark and cloudy.
Here we are at the restaurant. It's an Italian place that we really enjoy.
Before going home, we stopped at Lowe's to get some paint samples to try out for our bedroom project.
And here we are, almost home around 7pm. The sun is trying to peek out.
When we got home, we watched an old episode of Columbo. We find we enjoy those old shows!
And once again - it was a good day!

That sounds like a perfectly perfect day!
Dear Mari, I love your photos and enjoyed reading about your busy day.
I like what you do with the ground beef on special, what a great idea, dear friend.
I am glad you both got some leisure time at an Italian restaurant.
I love that photo.
That's quite an impressive newsletter you put out. What a gift to the church members to look forward to. Those cloudy skies are beautiful.
You have a nice laundry room! So you are painting the bedroom; the same color or a different one? You do a great job on The Lighthouse! We used to have a two page one called The Love Letter.
I love how well organized your laundry room is Mari. Especially with those shelves and the thingies that divide them.
You have a big laundry room! I envy you 😂
I am impatient to see the changes in your bedroom and the colour. We also have cloudy skies for the whole week , heavy rain too.
That was a busy day! My husband still has his pinewood derby car from years ago. He won! Also, that is how I like to do my ground beef too. I will buy the big family pack and cook it all and bag it in 4-5 bags. I do that with chicken too. I cook it in the crock pot, shred it and bag it up. Thanks for sharing your day!
Lovely! I'm my 20's, I was on the Scarsdale diet. One of the lunches was cottage cheese and pineapple or banana. I loved that! Can't have it now, it's high in lactose. I don't have a treadmill, I like to just pace around my small kitchen and dining room for about 45 minutes! It looks so pretty where you live! Your Spring is much later than ours, I adore the redbud trees in bloom!
That sounds like a really nice day, calm but productive. Your back yard looks really pretty with all of the spring freshness. Spring green is such a gorgeous shade. I'm sure everyone at your church really appreciates you doing the newsletter. Have a great May!!
Loos like a good day! When we painted our bedroom a few years ago we had to move the bed, and both the dressers back and forth! It was kind of annoying!
It sounds like a good day and the colouring is such a good thing to do. Yay for the new glasses and the cottage cheese with blueberries and raspberries do sound good. I have some Grape hyacinths in my back garden and they are so pretty!
Sounds like a busy but very productive day, which always makes it a good day! Love the clouds in the pictures.
That newletter you do is such a gift for your church members!! I know how much work that involves, Mari. Bless you for doing that! I enjoyed moving through your first day of May with you! Have a blessed week ahead!! xo
You had an eventful day. I was left wondering, did you get to buy new lenses for the old frames? Or did I understand correctly? Here in Finland, opticians don't do that, but you always have to buy new frames for new lenses. I think it's pointless if the old glasses frames are still good.
Looks like a great day.
You are one busy lady, Mari! I can't believe how much you crammed into one day alone. I loved the photos of the blooming plants, too. Spring finally arrives in Michigan!
Impressed is what I am with all that you accomplished. what a fabulous idea for the ground beef...And..then, the Lighthouse..this must take you a lot of time and I'm sure that everyone enjoys receiving a copy of it. Everything looks so pretty up your way..the green lawn and all of the beautiful trees..LOVE it!!!
Now that was a varied day! Awesome. I love Columbo. I think I've seen them all but I'll always watch them again. TG loves the one that was filmed at The Citadel, his alma mater. I hope you'll show what you do with your bedroom! I love bedroom makeovers!!! We have the Pinewood Derby at our church too. Ember and Guy were here with us when we had the big event and Ember was crushed that she did not get to participate! I said, maybe they will do it at your church and Daddy will be home and he'll help you make a car! And she wailed "I'll never get to do it 😭" ... oh DEAR! I said don't be so negative, hahaha! Her tears finally dried up as Rhett's car came in last every. single. time. Chad did not weight it properly, hahaha! Dagny used to have respectable cars but it seems to me that some of the dads are REALLY SERIOUS about their kids winning and we just never reach that level of caring, hahahaha! It amazes me every year how far behind us you are with flowering trees in your area! Ours are a distant memory, notwithstanding our cool-ish spring! xoxo 🏴☠️
My brother just told me that he's been watching Columbo again. So funny! I haven't heard about that show in years and now you've both mentioned in the same week! Maybe it's a sign I should watch!
Wow, you sure pack a lot into one day ! Its all good things and a bit of work and a few "rewards" always makes things better. I love that you and Bob do so many things together in the "everydays " of Life. I can't wait till Dave is back to getting around on his own steam so we can return to that lifestyle again. Thanking the Lord for health and family love.
Sue
Looks and sounds a very good day and you certainly packed a lot into it.
The cottage cheese with blueberries and raspberries sounds delicious.
Enjoy the week ahead.
All the best Jan
What an amazingly productive day, Mari! I enjoyed it tremendously!
Oh Columbo! We used to watch his program and went through all the old reruns and once we'd seen them all we moved on to something else. I'm thinking it's been long enough that we could probably watch them again and not remember them! LOL. I enjoyed your first day of May! You had a busy day! I love seeing your beautiful back yard, and the redbuds that are blooming! So pretty! I can't wait to see what you are doing in your bedroom project! I hope you took some before pictures! You both look great, and it's nice to have a Friday night date night! We usually have Dijiornos Pizza at home. LOL. I love your church newsletter. It looks very professional! What a great ministry!!! Your cottage cheese and fruit sounds good to me. Yes,I do that sometimes when I have some fresh of each...
Thank you for sharing your day with us. I enjoyed coming along for the ride!
What a great day you enjoyed.
I've said it before but that is a terrific idea to have the church mailboxes. Sure wish we had something like that. We wouldn't even need one that big.
I enjoy cottage cheese and fruit also!
A wonderful day!
It sounds like an extremely busy, but productive day. You two do a lot of work there. Great idea about the hamburger meat.
You had quite the busy but somewhat fun filled day. The Redbuds and Grape Hyacinths are blooming here too now. We had snow flurries on Monday morning. Rain yesterday. A weird Spring we are having this year. Janice
Mari,
I so enjoyed reading and seeing about your day. Your back yard and the side walking path look so beautiful. The newsletter!! You are awesome. How much time I know that goes into those!! I used to do them. I do a small one for our small group of ladies in our growing church. You had such a wonderful life filled day. :)
These posts are always so fun! I love that you love the coloring app too! It will be fun to see what you get up to with your bedroom project. And I love seeing all of your blooming trees!! Still waiting up here but shouldn't be too long now. 💗
