Ottawa Station School House

While driving around, enjoying the Fall colors last week, we came across this old school house.  It's one we have visited before but it's been several years.  It was good to see that it's still in good condition and appears to be well taken care of.

This is the Ottawa Station School house.  It was built in 1867 and was used as a school, community center and church.  It was closed in 1958 when some districts merged.  It's now owned by the Ottawa Center Historical Society.

I'm sure this bell rang often, for both school and church.

 I love these old windows.

Peeking into those windows is like stepping back in time.

I like the teachers desk too!

Isn't this place charming?

It is definitely charming, and I am so glad it has been well cared for....so many things like this have gone by the way-side.

It reminds me of Little House on the Prairie...though this one isn't on the prairie. Must more beautiful setting.

It reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. I would have loved going to school there. I am glad they are keeping it as a historic site!

So fascinating! I love it. There is a one-room schoolhouse nearby that the historical society owns and gives tours by request. Sometime I'd like to see inside. I drive by it almost every day. The name cracks me up - Boogersburg School. Some of the ladies in my exercise class said their parents went there to school and they never thought about the name being funny. I had to admit that we had some pretty funny sounding names in Lancaster County too, hahaha!

Oh I just love that, it does look like little house on the prairie is it a still usable school or just a museum?

Thank you for sharing......

How wonderful! Love seeing restoration of places so well loved in the past. My mom went to a one room school, and her oldest brother was the teacher. :)

So fun Mari! Old school buildings like this have such a charm to them. I think it'd be so fun to step back in time and be a student in something like this for a day. ;)
Have a wonderful weekend dear Friend. xoxo

I am sitting here trying to take in how it must have been back in 1867. I am thinking that this little room has been renovated and desk painted since those days because it is so pretty.

My aunt taught school in a one room school house quite like this. A wonderful, nostalgic tour today. I can almost HEAR the bell calling. Where's my Guffey Reader? Dog ate it!!!!

It is a lovely place--and so well taken care of. They must keep the windows sparklingly clean. I don't have nearly as much success trying to take pictures through windows!
