Outhouse charm!

There's a field I pass by frequently that had a row of trees lining the back edge of it. Last year, the owners of the field cut that tree line down, revealing an old outhouse.  It may sound crazy, but I thought that little outhouse was pretty charming and I admired it every time I drove by.  When I ran into one of the owners daughters I asked if they would mind if I walked out in the field to take some pictures, and she said it wouldn't be a problem.
Even after getting permission, the time never seemed right to go out there.  However, last week Bob and I were driving home and that evening glow was in the air, plus there were hay bales out there. Perfect!  My dear hubby agreed to park the car and walk out there.  The adjacent field had just been spread with manure so it didn't smell too good.  (Love that country air!)  Bob told me he thought I was crazy to walk out there in that smell to take pictures of an outhouse.  :)

Here's the view as we walked up to the outhouse.

Love all those vines and the haybales!

I don't think it's going to stand too long, the vines are taking over.

The sun is setting, it's time to head back to the car.

You have to admit - this outhouse is charming, right?

I think it's charming, too! How fun to have it revealed when the trees came down! Love the vines and the sun setting behind it!

My how times have changed...aren't you glad we don't have to run out to those just to go? ha.

Yes, it is charming. Seeing this reminds me of stories my mother told of going to the outhouse at my great grandma's house.

Oh you lead such a fun life! What a unique subject to photograph. I can imagine the conversation the daughter had with her parents about you wanting to take pictures of their outhouse...

There had to have been a family home around there some where. Could you tell where that may have been?

I love all the pics but that first one with the hay and the big old tree is so lovely. And I never saw an outhouse built quite like this one. The wood pieces are so unique.

I am glad that you and Bob made the effort to get a picture of this old outhouse for all of us to see.

I think the outhouse is charming, and it would be easy to think of the days it was even used, and the house and people there.

The only thing I HAVE to do is die and pay taxes ... but I'll give you that the outhouse has a certain rusticated charm. I guess we are safe in assuming there was once a residence near it? City girl here. Haahaha xoxo

It is very charming indeed Mari! Never mind the vines knocking it over, I think they are holding it together, it looks pretty, but pretty precarious too!! xx

Very cute outhouse. I like them too. When I was a kid, I had a friend who lived in a very old house that still had the outhouse standing and we dared each other to go inside. It was a little spooky.

There was an outhouse on the property when we purchased our place. It was the first thing Ken did, take down the outhouse.
Years later we wished we would have saved it; would have been a neat place to store our garden equipment, etc.

I agree with you, Mari. It does have a certain charm about it, and how great that you were able to stop and explore! Excellent!

I congratulate you for finding charm in the old falling down outhouse. The hay bales add to the charm.

i think the vines add to the charm. i suppose that may be why beauty is fleeting - it can't be sustained
