I thought it was time to show you around Fort Campbell - the home of the Screaming Eagles and the 101st airborne division.

Strategically located on the TN/KY state line, the 106,700 acre installation possesses a unique capability to deploy mission-ready contingency forces by air, rail, highway, and inland waterway.
Fort Campbell is proud to be the home of the only Air Assault Division in the world, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
This is one of the entries into the base. I think there are 10 in all. We had to get checked out and get a permit to come in and out. This gate is in Kentucky and once in, it took about 20 minutes to drive to Andy's barracks which are in Tennessee. This base is a city onto itself, with a hospital, restaurants, police force, bowling alley, golf course.... It's really quite amazing!

This is his kitchen. He will share this area and a bathroom with one other person. They each get their own room.

This package was left by the women on the base. They made up care packages with toiletries and some goodies, along with this cute welcome home card.
All over the base you will see monuments set up to commemorate different things that have happened in the history of the 101st.
There is even a museum with the history of the base.

If you've seen the movie "Band of Brothers" you've heard of the 506E, also know an Easy Company. They were a part of the 101st and this is their flag.
This bell was given to the 101st by the Netherlands as thanks for their part in WWII.
This is a picture of a sign that was set up in Normandy at the end of WWII.
This quilt commemorates the loss of a battalion of the 101st, when their plane crashed in 1985 at Dover AFB.
As you would expect, there are lots of Aircraft at the base.

Sounds like an amazing place! I used to love visiting my uncle and his family who lived near Wright Patterson in Ohio. He was air force and we spent a lot of time on base, shopping at the PX and going to the pool. I don't think WP is nearly as big as Ft. Campbell, but it seemed really big to me at the time :)

Our son just got there this weekend, joining 5th group, Special forces airborne. We are all the way here in AZ. Nice to see where he will be spending time now. Hopefully he will have a nice room like your son. Right noe he is at reception batrack...
