Putting up the tree

Do you have your tree up yet? Ours is up but we sure had issues this year!
We have an artificial tree, so setting it up was no problem. It's pre-lit, but we always string extra lights through the tree so it doesn't have lights just on the tips. And that's where we had trouble.
We started putting lights on and kept having trouble with them not working. We got to the top of the tree, and couldn't get lights to work. We had to stop for the night and I went out and picked up more lights the next day. When we went to put them on, we found that they were white - not the lights, but the cord. Now that would have looked a little funny on a Christmas tree don't you think?
So - I went back to the store the next day, making sure I got the right lights this time.
We finally got them all on and finished the tree. It looks great and I'm so glad to have it up!
Are you wondering about the picture? That's Oliver, trying to help with the decorations. Any bag or box we got out, he jumped into and checked for us. :)

Isn't that how it usually goes? You can't put up decorations without having problems. We had a few cats investigating while we were setting up as well, but surprisingly, no cats have been found in the tree...yet.

I'll bet they don't sell many strings of lights with the white cord. Just sayin...
Seeing a picture of Oliver makes me think of my Jumper who had to be put to sleep because he won't use his litter box. Go figure!

Such a sweet kitty. I can just imagine all the "help" he was giving you. Fun to watch though.

Awww! Sweet little kitty!

We have no tree. No idea when we will get a tree. We're hoping to get a live one this year from a tree farm (my first time ever to get a live tree from a tree farm!!), but, as we have no truck, we will have to depend on the kindness of friends with trucks. =)

Mari,

We are so alike from the artificial tree to the cats that will jump into all the boxes and bins we pulled out. I can understand how the cord color would be an issue, the same thing happened to us when putting up new outside lights, there are just somethings that don't mix well.

Can't wait to see your tree!

Quite an adventure! But (if you like little white lights as much as I do) it was worth all the effort!

Such a cute pic of Oliver! No tree at our house yet. Deer hunting season had to be observed first! Hopefully we'll get ours up this coming weekend.

The EXACT same thing happened to me! I think they make those lights to last exactly one year. I too had to leave ours half-lit so Andrew could run out to the store and buy more lights. On top of that, a new strand I'd bought just last week lit only two-thirds of the way! So frustrating. Tomorrow I'm finishing e everything up. About time. December is here!

I put up our pre-lit tree last year (clear lights) and then put LOTS of colored lights on myself. I did the same thing though and purchased some with white cord and had to take them back too. This year we put up the tree that is not pre-lit, so we put clear lights on first and then colored lights. Ended up with 920...and I only had one strand of 180 clear and decided we'd have to have two next time!

I know this story, Christmas lights can be amazingly frustrating.
