Tulip Time part 2

Yesterday I showed you tulips and a windmill. Today I want to show you some of the tourist things seen at Tulip Time.

Wooden shoes are everywhere! You can get shoes to wear, small shoes to display, shoes that are painted, shoes that are plain and shoes that have your name burned into them.
I remember going to Dutch Village with my 4th grade class and getting a pin of a wooden shoe with my name carved on it. Fun memories!

Speaking of Dutch Village, it's a fun place to visit. It's set up like an old Dutch town. There are shops inside, demonstrations of wooden shoe carving and things that show how the Dutch people lived and worked in the past.

There are even canals!

And how do you like this old Dutch mailbox?

Seeing a scene like this makes me feel like I've been transported to another place.
So, if you ever have the chance to come to Michigan, be sure you stop in Holland!

This looks like such a fun place to visit. I wonder how comfortable wooden shoes are. I love the building with the vines all over it. I bet it's gorgeous when the leaves are out.

I certainly have a reason to get to MI, just haven't made it happen yet! Hanging on my fridge, I have a special wooden shoe magnet with my name burned into it! :D

I am sad that I never took the opportunity to go up there for the tulips when I lived in South Bend. I always intended to but unfortunately never did....I think I missed out!!!

I remember when I got my wooden shoes, I wanted to wear them all the time, but boy were they uncomfortable! I have to believe that the real thing can't hurt so much!
Thanks for the tour down memory lane!

Great photos and I can tell you are having a nice time there. I love how you describe or tell a story and make others feel like they were there with you. Or they want to go there.

What a fun place to visit! I've not visited Holland yet even though I live in Michigan. Shame on me!

Mari...This series makes me want to visit our beautiful country so badly. I did not get to see all of these wonderful sights when I was staying in Amsterdam. Love the colorful shoes, the European sylph red mailbox, the little canal (I saw lots of those) and the windmills. Love this post. It makes me very happy on a rainy and dreary Saturday morning.

I'm wondering how I missed Dutch Village when I was there....

I'm guessing there was an admission fee (as to the island where the big windmill was), and we decided to stick with the "free stuff" in our short time there.
