Works for me Wednesday

It's time for a Wednesday tip! To see lots of good ideas, visit Kristen at We are THAT Family.

My tip is something I've heard about before, but never had a chance to try. However, last week I had cellulitis in my ankle. It was really warm and uncomfortable, and the urgent care Dr said it would be a good idea to put an ice pack on it. I don't have any ice packs in the house, but I remembered reading that a bag of frozen peas works well in a pinch.
I took the bag and wrapped a towel around it. The peas made it easy to wrap around my ankle and it really did help. I would put it back in the freezer if it started thawing.
Of course - when this was done I had to throw them away, but it was a small price to pay for an ice pack.
Hope you don't need this hint anytime soon, but if you do - it really works!
PS - the ankle is doing much better! I'm still on antibiotics for a few days.

I done the same thing before. Then I went out and bought an ice pack!
Glad your ankle is better, I'll send more frozen peas if you need them!

Oh I've relied on a pack or two myself for sprained ankles. Me, I whip out the chicken, white sauce and make up some biscuits to go with those there peas. Hugs. Tammy

For many years I've kept a small bag of peas in the freezer - with a label on it - especially for this purpose and for use on the kids and grands. Thanks for the reminder - I have a spot on my ankle that could use this treatment and I even have a bag of peas!

I've heard of this before, but never tried it. I actually keep a couple of the flexible type ice packs in my freezer at all times. With our tennis, bike riding, etc. ya never know when we'll need one for a ache, sprain, etc.

Glad to hear your ankle is better.

Hugs,
Kat

I bought a ice pac one time when I had a sore hip when we were in a motel. But I know the bag of peas works great too.

Made my mom grab a bag of frozen corn to put on her chin when I drove her to the hospital after her fall. She felt stupid, but it was the best ice pack to use!

Hope you're better soon, Mari.

I don't know if you follow this blog, but when I saw her pictures today I had to think of you. I know you like old barns and flowers! http://www.oldcentennialfarmhouse.com/2010/09/of-sweet-peas-old-barns-and-summers.html

We use bags of frozen corn :) The corn here is awful and not something we'd eat anyway so we keep re-using it as an ice pack for months.
