Crash!

I was at work on Tuesday, when I got one of those calls you hate to get. It was Heather.
"Mom, I was in an accident. I'm ok, but my car is in bad shape."
She was on her way to a Dr appt, and as she approached a green light, she realized that a van was going to go right through the red light. She tried to stop, but it was to late and she hit him.
There happened to be a police officer at a store on the corner who saw it and was able to be a witness that she wasn't at fault, so that was a real blessing. Of course, the biggest blessing was that she wasn't injured other than some bumps and bruises!
After work, we went to the body shop to look at her poor little car.

It took a pretty good hit and has lots of damage.

As you can see, both air bags went off. We are waiting to hear from the insurance company, but are thinking it will be totaled. It's been a really good car and is paid for, so we're sorry to see it go, if that's what happens. But, as our daughter Laura said - "we can replace a car, but I don't think we can find another Heather!"

Crash!

Our son-in-law, Aaron is a mechanic. He was at work Thursday morning, when there was an accident in his shop.
One of the other guys heard tires squealing, went to the door to look and was nearly struck by a delivery truck that came through the door. Another guy yelled which alerted Aaron to move, as the truck barreled through their shop and out through a wall!
The truck stopped outside at a fence, but the tires were still spinning. The man driving was having a seizure, which they later found was caused by low blood sugar.
He had a broken rib, but was otherwise uninjured.
No one in the shop was hurt, which was astounding, considering that 5 vehicles were hit, one was nearly knocked off a hoist, big tool boxes were thrown around and parts were knocked off the wall and tossed about.
We are so thankful for God's protection over all of them!
Here's a few pictures to show you the damage.

Here is the truck, after going in one door, through the building and out through a wall.

Here you can see the hole the truck made as it went through the wall. Aaron was standing at the edge of that hole, talking on the phone to a customer. The call was disconnected and the customer called to see if everything was ok, after hearing lots of crashing and people saying to "call 911."

This Honda was shoved under the other car which was on the hoist.

Here is another shot of that car. It also shows some of the stuff on the floor. The wall the truck went through is where there where bins of parts, so you can imagine the mess when they all came down.

Here's one of the tool boxes that was knocked down.

This is sad. There was six cars damaged (including one in the parking lot)and one of them was this 1955 Ford Fairlane. It had been completely restored and was just about back together. Of course the people in the shop are more important, but it's not something that is easily replaced.
This is a reminder of how quickly things can happen, and how we need to thank God every day for the ways we are protected that we may not even know about.

Ouch!

Thursday afternoon, after a long day at work, I was just heading home. Then I got the call. You know - the one every parent dreads. "Mom, we were in an accident". "We're all right, but can you come pick us up?"
Heather had been out with her friend Melissa and on their way home, they were hit in an intersection by someone who ran the stop sign. The girl who hit them was on her way to her own high school graduation.
.

The green car is Melissa's. When I arrived and saw the damage, I realized how blessed we were that the girls were all right. The driver of the other car wasn't hurt either.
.
This is the passenger door. There were pieces of glass all over the car.
.

Here are Heather and Melissa trying to keep warm while waiting for the police and wreckers to do their work. At this point they were able to smile again.

.
Melissa's car was damaged on all sides, and I'm sure will be totaled. This is the back rear tire.
Both girls had some cuts from the glass, along with bumps and bruises. Heather had to pick glass out of her clothing when she took a shower tonight. Melissa got the worst of it, as she took the impact on the side.
As Melissa's Dad said - cars can be replaced, the girls could not be. We are so thankful for God's protection today.
