I thought I'd share a few random things from the last week.
Last weekend we went to a surprise birthday party! My sister Terri and her husband Dave both turned 60 within a week of each other. So their kids threw a surprise party.
Daughter Chelsea took them for a drive, then had them put on masks before coming it.
Surprise!
Their kids did a great job and we all had a good time.
Someone from church had lots of extra tomatoes they gave me, so I canned this salsa. I also canned tomatoes and tomato sauce. It feels good to have that stored away!
The weather has been beautiful, and I've been enjoying some walks in a wooded area down the road from us.
As I was walking, this caught my eye. What is a shell doing on the edge of the woods?
Isn't this a beautiful tree? Being out in nature is such a reminder of God's majesty. Makes me think of the song 'How Great Thou Art'.
Blue skies and sunshine! I'm enjoying it while I can.

Happy Birthday to your sister and brother-in-law! What a cute party idea.
Hi Mari! You have some beautiful pictures in this post. So glad you are having a nice late summer. That salsa looks delicious, and your sister's surprise party looked like it was a lot of fun for everyone! It's always nice to see what you've been up to. Have a good week!
I love all your photos, dear Mari! Happy Birthday to your sister and brother in law! I was making a comment a few minutes ago and I totally lost it. :( So I am trying it again. Your photos are beautiful!
It looks like everyone had a wonderful time!
Canning is something I have never done. My mother never did it, I kind of wish she did, because perhaps I would have done it as well!
Your salsa looks delicious, dear friend.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Beautiful pictures. Your salsa looks good
Glad the surprise went off well. Is that sandy soil where the shell is?
Happy birthday to my sister and her husband! Well done to their children, they seem to have really enjoyed the surprise party! Nature and a tree always make you feel so beautiful!!
Have a good week Mari!
I love and I mean BIG TIME LOVE a good walk in the woods. I also one time found a random shell very similar in the woods and it was an odd forest for it to be in. So, strange. Oh, the surprise party looked like a fun surprise as they entered.
Happy birthday - looked like a very nice party.
I did like that tree in your yard - very unusual.
And what was that shell doing in the woods.
Mari, I’m curious about that shell. If it is hard and rock like it could be a fossilized snail shell. How large is it? My husband thought it was cool. Of course we’re kinda nerds like that! 🥸
The tree photos are gorgeous. I love tree photos best. Oh your sister’s birthday sounds perfect. How fun for her.
Both of your tree photos are absolutely stunning! The way the light comes through the leaves is just exquisite. The party must have been so fun, and doubly so because it was a surprise!
They definitely look surprised. Such a cute photo. It makes me smile.
I love your jars with canned tomatoes!
Beautiful woodland to walk in and yes trees show the handiwork of God. Lovely looking tomato salsa, well done.
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing, smiles.
The shell is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and wasn't rock like, just a normal shell. I thought it was cool too!
The shell was in a little patch of sandy soil on the edge of the woods.
It isn't always easy to put together a surprise party so job well done. Love all of your photos and yes, tomatoes processed and ready for winter are a wonderful thing.
Your sister looks like you, Mari. How wonderful about their surprise party! Your pictures are absolutely luscious. Yes, we have to enjoy this weather while we can. Love, Andrea xoxo
what a fun birthday surprise, Happy 60 to both of them. My oldest son, David turned 60 this past Valentine Day, born in 1965.. Old is when you son turns 60. wooo boy.... I don't can but I do eat food that has been canned by others. mother canned any and all things, no matter if veggies, fruits, if it could be canned she canned it. I always thought it should be called JARRED because she never put anything in a can, but a jar or in her later years a freezer ha ha
Mari! That upshot of the trees with the sun shining through! How gorgeous. You must go back and get that shot again when the colors arrive. The shell was a snail! He lived in/on a tree! OK and now for what was happening in 1965 ... I was eight, and it's funny how I remember so vividly songs like Downtown and I Got You Babe. My grandchildren (the Porter boys) are wild over Tom and Jerry and watch the old cartoons constantly, although I thought they appeared much earlier than 1965 🤔 ... maybe just not as a series on CBS until then ... the movie The Great Race is one of the funniest I have ever seen and it's a huge favorite of my kids and I've seen all of those other movies with the exception of That Darn Cat! hahaha ... you are really something with those tomatoes. I live for salsa and eat it almost every day ... the party must have been such a good time. Good for those kids making a surprise happen! xoxo
Happy birthday to your sister, (who has a great name!) and bro-in-law!! How fun to celebrate that milestone together with family! Your salsa looks great and those canned goodies will taste good when the snow is flying! Sending a hug!! xo
Aaww. -love that they had a surprise party together. :) I love those banners...we had one for my Dad too. It's so fun to look up the facts of the time. And love the photos - so beautiful!! I love that old hymn. It always reminds me of my grandparents as it was one of their faves. God is sooo good. 💗
You live in such a magical area. I think I would never get anything done. Those woods and scenery would be calling me.
I'm glad you took time to enjoy it.
Love the surprise birthday party for your Sis and her hubby.
Treasured times together.
Ummm, yummm, homemade salsa. Now I'm drooling.
Sue
How fun, a surprise party!! :) The salsa looks good!! Beautiful photos.
Happy Surprise Birthday to your sister and hubby! What fun to have a surprise party!! I wonder if they knew??? Oh, your jars of salsa look so pretty, and I LOVE all your photos of the trees and skies, etc. Absolutely gorgeous!!! There is so much to enjoy in God's big beautiful Creation! Thank you for sharing your part of the country with us! Have a lovely rest of your week.
Very nice Birthday party, very good idea!
Tomato sauce will be nice during the winter.
It’s nice to walk outside we did 10 kms walk today by the sea with a LOT of wind!
all good things...nice for your friend to give you tomatoes. Our tomatoes are all gone.
Yes very odd to see a shell like that in the woods. Our weather has been Summerlike again. The air even came back on yesterday. A wonderful old tree for sure. Very majestic. Janice
Forgot to say Happy belated birthday to your sister. How nice she had a surprise party. Janice
So pleased the surprise party went well.
I do like all the trees in your photographs and that woodland area looks a wonderful place to enjoy a walk.
All the best Jan
What a lovely area to walk!! Happy birthday to your sister and brother in law party sounds like fun.
Cathy
Nice birthday party! The weather certainly has been beautiful!
Beautiful pictures of your walk.
That looks like a snail shell, I think. It does seem like an odd place for it to be. Do you think the snail might still have been in it?
I just loved this post, so wonderful to spend these precious moments with your grandchildren, doing simple things outside. What a wonderful birthday surprise party too! I am enjoying all the sunshine we are having too! Blessings to you :)
It's been so gorgeous here too! My feet are getting better. One evening I decided I could go for a walk. I was good for a while, but then cut across someone's lawn to get home more quickly when I felt a twinge. No way I wanted to aggravate things.
