Gone Home

Last week we lost my sweet stepmom.  She's had a hard 8 months since my Dad passed.  Her dementia had gotten worse, she had several falls and fractured both her shoulder and her arm.
A few weeks ago she went on Hospice (and had the same wonderful Hospice nurse my Dad had).  On Tuesday, her daughter called and said they thought she only had a few days left. When I saw her, she wasn't responsive and she passed away a few hours later.
I'm happy she didn't linger, that I know she is in heaven, and the issues she was dealing with here on earth are no longer with her.
They were married for 15 years and she was such a blessing to my Dad and to our family.
Here's her obituary and a few pictures of our Ann.

With Alaina

With Ruby

And with Cassie.  She loved them and they loved her back.  They never knew life without her.  Because of her age, Cassie doesn't realize it, but Alaina and Ruby are very sad.

With my Dad about 5 years ago

She and Dad loved bowling and this was a time out bowling with all the grandkids and great grandkids.

Here she is with Ruby on a boat ride.  She was a grandma, who even at 90 plus years would be on the floor playing with the kids.

With my Dad

And a family picture taken about 10 years ago with all the grandkids and Alaina.
Ann lived a good life and was 94 years old.  I'm so thankful I got to know her for the last 16 years of it and am thankful I will see her again!

I'm so sorry for your loss, Mari. Thank you for sharing the pictures with us. I teared up ...especially with the one of Ann and your dad by themselves. Such precious memories you have and I'm thankful that Alaina and Ruby had the privilege of knowing her.

Oh Mari, I am so sorry for your family's loss, especially so close to Christmas. I know how difficult that is as both of my grandparents (paternal) passed right before Christmas (9 years apart, however). But we can always rejoice in knowing that our loved ones are with Jesus, and celebrating Christmas with the King of kings in person! How wonderful is that? Praying for you and your extended family during this time of grief. (((hugs)))

I am sorry for your loss, Mari. The photos are all so nice and one can feel the love Ann had for her family in seeing them. My heart goes out to your family as I know you will miss her. After reading about her, I am impressed by so many things, particularly that she could get up and down from the floor to play with the kids in her 90s.

This is sad -- especially at Christmas -- but she has gone home and is free from all pain and sorrow and suffering. That is very good news! These are wonderful pictures. How precious that she and your beloved dad had so many good years together. I'm praying for your family. xoxo

Please accept my prayers and condolences to your family. Such sweet memories there must be in those photos. I'm glad that your dad and Ann had 15 years of happiness. I'm glad you were able to see her even if she was unresponsive. Hearing is the last sense that is lost before passing so she probably knew you were there.

So sorry to read this. Seems like the holidays are not in our favor this year with family passing. Prayers for your stepmom that she re-united with your dad. Take care. Janice,
