Valentines Day at the Nursing Home

We have some wonderful activity staff at the nursing home.  Our activity director is full of fun and is always looking for ways to give enjoyment to our residents.  Valentines Day is not as enjoyable for many of them who no longer have spouses living. She talked to a lot of them about memories of Valentines Days in past years and decorated all over the facility.  Every residents door had a heart with their name on it.

They even put up a heart for myself and the Dr on the room we use when he does rounds.

Another fun thing they did was collecting valentines for all the residents.

A lot of family members and staff took part in this and the envelopes looked pretty full.  I wasn't there on Valentines Day, but I know that a lot of them really enjoyed opening those envelopes and seeing all the valentines and notes.

This is something a few of the evening nurses and aides came up with and have been working on.  Each resident got a surprise on Sunday evening.

I even had a few surprises left on my desk on Thursday.  There were also some pictures that were drawn and colored by some residents that I put up in my room.

And in business other than the nursing home, here is Alaina with the card we sent over to her and Ruby.  Laura said she was excited to see how big it was when she unfolded it.  Their whole family has been sick with nasty colds, plus Alaina had an ear infection.  She's feeling better, but Ruby and Laura are still feeling pretty crummy.
Valentines Day is also Heather's birthday!  I know she and Andrew celebrated and I'm sure he spoiled her well!

How special!! I love the way your nursing home treats and honors the residents.

I'm glad your great big card could bring a bright spot to Laura's family. It's not fun to be sick.

The Valentines celebrations at the nursing home sound fun for the residents. I will visit a nursing home this week or next, with the aim of being a volunteer. Any ideas of yours appreciated.

First a belated happy birthday wish to Heather.

Loved reading about all the festivities and craftwork done for your residents. AND that card for Alaina and Ruby....wow, impressive. And her smile says it all.

That BIG valentine was obviously a hit with Alaina!! Sorry they have all been under the weather. Hope everyone is on the mend! If I had to be in a nursing home, or have a family member in one, I hope it is like yours! How nice that so many things are done that include each resident and leaves no one out of the festivities. Bless you all for the beautiful work you do!

What a fun thing to do for the residents :) Happy Birthday to Heather. Alaina is getting so big, I'm sure she was very excited to get her card.

Hi Mari! I am always so impressed by your staff at the Nursing Home, and how you really go 'all out' for holidays. I love the sensitivity of your leader too, thinking of those who have lost loved ones. I'm sure there are more widows/widowers than not.

The stuffing of the Valentines envelopes is such a great idea. We all want to feel loved!
I hope your family returns to health soon! Seems like my daughter's children can never catch a break there. Coughs, runny noses and ear infections abound this time of year! Stay healthy yourself my friend :)
Blessings,
Ceil

Oh I was just at Heather's blog and forgot to say Happy Birthday, although I know she's a Valentine! Please tell her for me that I hope her day was wonderful and I'm sure it was. I'm so sorry to hear of all the sickness. We've been so lucky this year in that regard. The card you gave the girls is fabulous. You know just what makes little kids smile. Your residents are fortunate too, to have such loving carers. xoxo

That's so nice the residents are treated special on Valentine's Day. Everyone needs love!

Alaina looks so cute with the card. She's such a beautiful girl. I'm sorry Ruby and her mom are still sick. It's that kind of weather, at least here, where it's cold (for us) and then the temps go up; kind of back and forth.

xoxo

Alaina looks so happy with her big card, but she does look like she has been sick. I hope that they all get better real soon.
