Messy visitors

It's Fall and in our yard that means acorns.  For some reason, the last 2 years we have had more acorns than ever.  When they fall they hit the roof, and sometimes it wakes us up at night.  If it's windy, it sounds like they are being thrown at the house.  We literally cannot step on our yard without stepping on more than one acorn.  Bob has already removed several wheelbarrows full of acorns, and you would never know it.
Bob isn't happy about all these acorns, but we have some visitors that are really enjoying them.

Isn't this little chipmunk cute?  If you look at the background of these pictures, you will see the thousands of acorns that are filling up our yard.

The funny thing is that these critters don't like to eat the acorns in the grass.  They take them to our front steps, sit there and eat them. Here's another front step visitor.

 "Well, hello there!"

"Don't mind me - I'm just having a little snack."

"What?  You don't like the mess I leave?"

"Just leave me alone.  You can sweep it up when I leave".

And this is what we're left with...   Oh well, I like to watch them!

Those are just the cutest little chipmunks and it looks like you could use the broken acorn shells as mulch for your garden.

I feel the same way about the rabbits we have in our garden. They look very cute but when they start digging up the garden and trying to dig their way into the house, they are less cute!

I can imagine the chore of keeping them 'picked up'....but the cuteness that pays you visits and for a free lunch....it's worth it with photos this darling.

You got some great shots of that busy little guy! You should show these photos to Alaina, she would love them!

I know they make a mess, and it is hard cleaning up, but the pictures are so cute, and made me smile. Have a good day!

They are fun to watch. We have those acorns, too, and the squirrels love them. They are packing some of them away, I think. We don't see the mess yours leave for you. Our squirrels have it easy, though. We don't have ice and snow and freezing temps. It's just life as usual for them. We sure don't have wheelbarrows full of the things, so you either have more trees or trees that drop four times as many as ours. And yes, we hear them hitting the roof, too.

That is just absolutely crazy - we never had that when we were growing up. The little visitors are adorable though, even if Dad doesn't think so. :)

Chippy!! Poor Oliver doesn't have any Chippy here to keep him company, although there are a number of squirrels that he enjoys watching!

Wow! You guys do have a lot of acorns!
I am amazed at how big the acorns are too... ours here are just teeny; off of the scrub oak.
If I had some of your acorns, I'd fill up jars of them :)
Though, I do understand how they can be too messy.
Crabapples here are the mess makers at this time of year; still I love 'em.

Smiles :)

We have had masses of acorns from our oaks this year, Hubby keeps gathering them up and yet more come down! There is an oak tree at the end of our road and the road is covered in squished acorns from having to drive over them. The squirrels are very happy though! The humans, well, not so much! It is the same the world over! xx

Holy Hannah - you weren't kidding about the amount of acorns you get! Crazy!! I guess you must have lots of oak trees around there. Lol

The chippies are awfully cute - and you're doing a good deed keeping them nice and fed before winter. ;)

If you hadn't said, I would thought those were squirrels. Shows what I don't know. :)

Yes, indeed a LOT of acorns. We get a few, and when stepped on barefoot, it hurts! Such a cute post, Mari!

I'm loving that second photo.

It is amazing to me that you can get a good close-up picture of the chipmunks. The ones around here will twirl around and leave at the least bit of motion.

I think you should write a book for Alaina and Ruby about these chipmunks making messes on Grandma's porch and about Grandpa having to cart many wheel barrels full of acorns out of his yard every year.
You could even put the girls in the story. With your wonderful photo skills, you probably could market it.

CUTE pics of those chippies! Anthony and Lori have so many of them too and lots and lots of acorns. It's fun to find places where they store them.

Cute!
We had acorns when we lived in AZ, but not that many. Wow! I remember watching them throw the shells down onto our cars. Funny creatures.

at the old house, the critters got in the attic and the walls, not so cute.
the place we are now is surrounded by bunnies and i love watching them!!

I would say the acorns are a good trade for the cuteness of the critters.

The squirrel is so cute! Too bad he leaves such a mess. I'm afraid neither of your cute critters would survive at our house. Our dog considers squirrels a delicacy, and our three cats have gone all out to try to eradicate chippies (and mice) from our property.

Compared to other years, it's been a bit of an off year for acorns here ... but still our house is pummeled day and night from the huge front-yard oak that towers over our roof. Some of them sound like somebody lobbed a big rock. The dogs are constantly bewildered. xoxo
