A day in my life...

Happy July!
I know I'm a day late, but I thought I would wait a day to post this, and keep my recipe on Thursday.
As I usually do, I'm sharing my first day of the month with you.  I was working on July 1, so I don't have too much excitement to share, but here's how the day went.
I got up at my normal time (about 10 minutes before 5am), walked on the treadmill, got ready and headed for work.

This was taken at about 6:40am.  It's so nice to have it light in the morning when I'm going to work.  I always enjoy taking the back roads in and enjoying some beauty on the drive.

This was the big news at work.  We're going to have a big construction project at our nursing home.  They've been working on this for a while, but getting all the permits and government okays takes a while.  It looks like they are finally getting almost ready to start.  We are adding a wing, making many of the rooms private, getting a new therapy gym, chapel and fixing everything up.  We're all pretty excited!

Our MDS nurse is leaving us, so we had a potluck for her.  We decided it's a good thing we don't do that every day - none of us left hungry!

It was a busy day and I ended up staying 1 1/2 hours late. Some days are like that, but it was a day that Bob was working late, so I didn't have to worry about supper.
On my drive home, I admired all the tiger lilies, growing wild in the ditches.  I love seeing the beauty that God puts around us!

Close to my house, I came upon this old caboose.  The man who lived here loved trains.  He passed away a few years ago and now his kids are donating this to be put on a walking trail.
See the clouds in the sky?  It was a crazy weather day - sunny, then cloudy.  When I was driving home the thermometer on my car said it was only 65 degrees, which is pretty cool for July 1.

I had a quiet evening at home, did a little laundry, paid some bills and checked out blogs.  One of them was my daughter Heathers.  She started a new blog and is currently showing her house and neighborhood in a few posts.  If you want to visit her, her blog is Little House in a Big City.

As it started to get dark, I decided to take a short drive.  I had heard several things about 'The star of Bethlehem'.  It's actually Venus and Jupitor, so close together that they look like one big star.  The astronomers say this hasn't happened for 2000 + years, and it may have been the star the wise men saw.
We have too many trees around our house to see any stars that are low on the horizon, so at 10pm I went on that drive.

It's surprising how light it can be outside, when the moon is nearly full.  Of course, in this picture, my headlights are shining also.

Sorry for the poor picture - I'm not good at night shots.  But, here it is!  Can you see how bright that star is compared to the one next to it?
And that was the end of another good day.  Thanks for tagging along!

Happy Fourth of July to all my American friends.  Hope you all have a great day!

So interesting about that star!

You got up at your normal time? And what is that? I got up at 4:30 for so many years, and that is one thing I do not miss. Although I work every day, I do not have to start early, so I have time to get things done at home in the mornings before I leave.

You got a great shot of the star. I had heard about it, but forgot to look. How exciting to have an expansion of your workplace! Keep us posted, please, on the progress! I love the unpaved roads and beautiful scenery that you get to enjoy on your way to and from work! Thanks for sharing your day, Mari!

I love the star picture. I'm also happy to see that the work is actually going to be happening at work. It will be crazy, but nice to have it actually happen. Thanks for the blog shout-out!

Oh, I love the star shot. I'll be sure to visit Heather.

That's exciting about adding another wing etc. at work.

I wish you all a nice holiday.

Busy day....but still you got so much accomplished. And with the pot luck during the day, no big meal to cook once home so that made for some time to get 'home stuff' done like laundry.

Beautiful night-time drive. I'd not heard about the two planets so close together. Now, I'm gonna have to go out tonight to find 'em. IF it's NOT cloudy.

Beautiful pictures/photos, Mary. It has been so overcast here and quite cool that we couldn't see the star, we had read about it...Have a lovely weekend, my friend. Happy July 4th. Blessings

It is fun to know what you do in a day and I always enjoy your post about it. I did go to your daughter's new blog and truly love her home. The nursing home looks like a very nice place to work and with the expansion, even more to care for. Happy 4th weekend!

I'm an early riser, too - and so appreciate the early light - well, the LATE light, too. It makes it so much better for me to drive home from my parents' in the evening!

I'd sure love to have that caboose! I think I'd fix it up and move in :)

Thankful for you (and people like you) who put in the extra time when needed at work.

I'm going over to visit your daughter now. Wondering if you will be working this holiday weekend....My hubby has a wedding to perform on the 4th. Yes. That's right. I'm playing the piano for it - so it's rehearsal tonight; wedding tomorrow afternoon.

You had a lot of exciting things on your blog today. I had not heard about the star, but I did hear about the two full moons this month. I will be sure to check out Heather's blog. The tiger lilies are blooming here also. I love the pictures of the ones you saw. Everyone must be so excited at your work place to be expanding. That is such great news!

I also like your night picture! We have too many trees here to see much sky. I'm ok with that since so many other things are so good about this property :)
I went through many a renovation project and helped a lot with planning a big new construction project at the retirement community where I worked. Unfortunately, I did not see that big project to the end...I left before ground was broken. It is exciting to see improvements, isn't it?
Happy 4th to you and your family!

I love these peeks into your days! ;)

How exciting for your facility! Shortly before I left my last social work job to be a full time SAHM they were beginning plans for a new facility there. I went back about a year later and toured around and it was stunning!! Too bad it hadn't been like that when I was there. Lol So nice to make improvements like that for the good of our older adults.

I'll have to check out Heather's blog too! Sounds cool.

Happy holiday weekend! xo

I love hearing about your day, Mari. So glad that you're going to get an expansion at work; I take it there will be room for more people? Will they have to hire lots more?

Going to Heather's now!

And, by golly you got one of the pics I've seen so far; that looks amazing! :)

Hope you guys have a great Independence Day! I'll be right here as my daughter went to Britt's. Just me and Hopper Henry, and those fireworks scare him. :(

xoxo

It's been cool here too -- can you believe? Today I sat outside on the front porch to read and I actually took a thin blanket out to put over my legs! I'm enjoying it. June was sweltering. This is the first I'd heard of the Star of Bethlehem! I asked Erica if she knew about it and she said yes but it was cloudy here. That's fascinating. I always like your first-day-of-the-month posts. xoxo

Hi Mari! I saw the two lights in the sky, and when it was three too. I think it was Venus, Vega and Jupiter. I love star-gazing! I could see them in the sky in your photo, good job!

How fun that your daughter is blogging too. I know you'll help her a lot. Fun stuff happening at work for you. Private rooms, a chapel...I hope it's not too loud for your patients. (Maybe this is one time being hard of hearing is a blessing!)
Hope you had a great 4th,
Ceil

I always enjoy your "a day in my life..." posts! It's so fun to get a glimpse of what you do :)
The photo of the tiger lilies brought back memories of living in Michigan! A good friend here in Argentina paid quite a bit for a pot of tiger lilies and was astounded when I told her they grew wild in the ditches in Michigan. hahaha

I love these posts, Marie. I wish I could remember to do this. Maybe I should let you be my reminder and I'll do them on the 7th of every month!
