Country Fun!

We have a family tradition that's been going on since I was a kid.  Every year, a small community near the area I grew up in has a chicken BBQ.  I remember going to it as a kid.  My Dad has continued this, inviting any family members who are available and getting supper for all of us.
The chicken is always good, but I love going and seeing people I know and having a good time with family.  This event always makes me think of small town America.  I've got a bunch of pictures to share and you can let me know if you agree!

They have a community band that's always playing while we wait in line.  They play lots of old songs and many patriotic ones too.

Here's a whole bunch of the family.  My brother, 2 sisters and most of their families were all able to come.  The only ones missing were Laura and Aaron at another reunion, Andy in Tennessee and my niece Katelyn who had to work.

After we got done eating, we visited the animals in the petting zoo.

This was a talented pot bellied pig.  He did all sorts of tricks.

This goat was only 2 weeks old

How do you like the curls on this sheep?

"What you looking at?"

After the animals, was a car show...

I thought this was a pretty nice truck!

And in the country - you look at tractors too!

Thanks Grandpa and Grandma for a fun night!

This looks like so much fun! Great to have so many of the family gathered together for good food, sweet animals and vintage cars. I know the music was great too. Thanks for sharing the pics. Have a nice week.

I agree...small town America at it's finest! It reminds me of our village on Labor Day weekend! So fun...and you can feel the connection of just being together!

Mari, I grew up in a very small town, so this just looks like home to me! My town has a Sweet Corn Festival every year (Labor Day weekend, actually). Pigs are said to be smarter than dogs, and are easily trained. I loved seeing your photos this morning!! They set the tone for my day...happy!! :)

I love these kinds of community traditions. There's a potato festival not too far from where we live, and our community really turns out for DQ Blizzard sales and our university's parade.

So wonderful for the whole family to get together like that at such a great event. I love small town America and events like these. Our own Fall Festival will be coming up shortly and we look forward to that each year.

I love it! We have a huge event here called the Grange Fair. It goes for ten days, starting this week. Sam and Sammy are coming up next weekend for it and hopefully bringing Destiny along.

What a great time. I love stuff like this. I don't know what looks like more fun ... the critters on y'all's plates or the ones off the plates. LOL

That curly sheep. I want one! I love sheep anyway, but one with all the curls, that has to be the prettiest one I have seen for a while.

I LOVE small town events like this! And I agree that the best part is getting to see people you don't see very often.
