This is a picture of the lilac bush in our back yard. We planted it about 15 years ago when it was just about 12 inches tall. It took several years before it started blooming, but this year it is full of flowers and it smells so good!
The smell of lilacs is one of those scents that takes me back in time and makes me think about my Mom. When I was young we had a really large bush outside our kitchen. I remember my Mom opening the window and letting that sweet smell into the house. When it was blooming, Mom always had bouquets on the table. She would cut them and let us bring them to our teachers too. Isn't it funny how smells can bring back those memories?
Oh great memories at that:)I will be posting my first bush we planted 2 years ago and it smells sooo good for a little fella:)Cant wait until it gets to be as big as yours:)
ReplyDeletehmm, their smell is like none other! wonderful.☺
ReplyDeleteI too love lilacs! My grandma had two bushes and now my mom lives there and she & I were just raving about them last week. Scents are certainly very powerful! Isn't our God awesome! How HE provides all the little details not only for our survival, but pleasure too. And the special little blessings HE gives us daily. Enjoyed your blog.
ReplyDeleteYes, my grandma had lillacs in her yard to and I always think of her when I see them, lillies of the valley and myrtle are others that she had around her yard.
ReplyDeleteLilac's are one of my favorite bushes. We planted one, but it hasn't really done much yet. I just love the fragrance of a lilac.

I planted ours 2 years ago when we moved in...good to know it takes a while. Yours is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLilacs also bring me warm memories of my childhood. I just love them.
ReplyDeleteMari,
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lilac bush, but Michelle told me that I could take a little one from hers. I will be doing that this week.
Lilacs take me back to my childhood. There were mauve, purple and white ones that grew along the road and Mom had a French lilac in our yard. The fragrance of lilacs bring sweet memories.
Hope you have a great week, my friend.
Blessings,
Mary
When I see forsythia bushes, it takes me back to my childhood and my grandparent's house. They had them lining both sides of their property, and then also some along the back. They weren't trimmed back really, so we could walk under them without stooping much and use it kind of like a hideaway, although I don't really want to think about the bugs and spiders that were probably around in there. They didn't really smell though.
ReplyDeleteHoneysuckle is the smell I remember the most from my childhood. I'd smell it all the time on the walk home from the school bus.
Your lilac bush is beautiful, and it's really special since you planted it yourselves.
I so wish we could have lilacs here in the sub-tropics. They don't do diddly squat good here. But, with your photo, I can drink in the lovely fragrance.
ReplyDeleteHaving been a teacher, I have been the recipient of many such bouquets.
ReplyDeleteI love your lilac bush and the candy tuff. It makes for a lovely setting in your yard.
I was just thinking about my lilac bush that we cut down. I sure miss the smell because it does remind me of mom too. I forgot you had one- I'll have to come smell yours :)
ReplyDeleteThe scent of lilacs is wonderful. What a beauty of a lilac bush:)
ReplyDeleteI can almost smell the lilacs. *smiles* What a beautiful picture; I want to walk around in your back yard, lol!!
ReplyDeletethey are gorgeous! makes me wish i didn't have a black thumb (and a yard full of red clay mud)
ReplyDeleteOh, that fragrance is so heavenly! When my daughters birthday came last month, she requested a lilac bush! That's what we got her, she planted it immediately and it's already bloomed. On large sweet smelling flower!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy yours in your beautiful surroundings!
They are my mom's favorite flower....and consequently one of mine. I love that smell.
ReplyDeletewhat a blessing to have the scent view of a lilac bush!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory. It makes me smile......Have a good day. Kae
ReplyDeleteI have a large lilac bush on the side of my house and I love it. They do smell so good.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! And I love lilacs as well. We've had them at many of the homes we've lived in over the years. I haven't seen any here though :-( So get in some extra smelling for me :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Lilacs as well.unfortunaly the blooms only last a short time.
ReplyDeleteLilacs are still my very favorite fragrance. I remember that lilac bush outside the kitchen window. When we moved, I was upset because I thought it should come with us.
ReplyDeleteI also loved taking bouquets in to our teachers!
I love them, too. We had a huge bush down by the crick where I played every chance I got. I remember taking them in to my teachers, too. :) Fun memories, you're right!
ReplyDeleteYes it is neat how smells remind us of good or bad times or times even that we can't remember, but think we should.
ReplyDeleteWow- I can smell them from here!
