I had such a fun day with my daughters on Saturday. They had planned this day to celebrate my retirement, but we wanted to wait until it was a little nicer outside. So, Saturday it was!
Here's my girls enjoying their brunch. They had some fun coffee drinks too. Laura had a mint chocolate cold coffee and Heather had a Blueberry Mocha, which they enjoyed.
These scents were divided into floral, nature, food (spice) and one other that I can't remember. :)
We had to smell each bottle and set aside the ones we liked. We had coffee beans to sniff occasionally to clear the scents.
After you choose some favorites, you put drops from 2-6 scents on a sample stick to see how you like them blended together.
When you come up with a blend you like, you can place your order and take it home with you! We each got a small bottle of perfume and they all turned out good. This was such a fun activity.
We found our car and went to another part of the city that had some cute shops. This was our last stop. It's called The Established Home. There's a show by the same name on Discovery and The Magnolia Network showing homes that the owner has redone. I have watched several seasons of this and enjoyed it. If you want to check it out, you can find links here. This shop was full of beautiful things - but most were too pricey for me!
Then it was time to head home as it was getting close to suppertime.
We had such a fun time together and I loved spending the day with my girls!

What a special day! I'm glad you ladies had sunshine for your big city adventure. Grand Rapids has some unique and wonderful shops to visit and your brunch looked delicious. I bet it was fun to create your own scent.
Hi Mari! Looks like such a fun day with your girls! I have never heard of a place where you make your own perfume scents. That sounds like so much fun! Grand Rapids looks like a nice town with lots of interesting old buildings. So glad you had a nice day and made some wonderful memories!
What a wonderful day!! I love the church, it looks like a medieval castle! You found such unique places to visit. Your daughters look like you!
A beautiful mother and daughters’ day!
I love the shops you visited. The perfume shop is exact what my son gifted me me for Xmas , but I have to go to town ( in Rouen) to get help to manage with so many fragrances and bottles. I did one perfume already but I am not too satisfied 😊
Your girls are beautiful and I know all three of you will cherish the memory of your girls' day out. It is fun seeing your photos of Grand Rapids. I agree that the old buildings are absolutely lovely. The beauty of architecture in "the old days" far surpasses the modern buildings being built today. I will check in on The Established Home!! I'm still addicted to The Repair Shop!
It is days like this that make life so fun. Your girls are so pretty and they glow with pure sweetness. What a fun day for you all! don't you just love the smell of a good handmade leather shop? but I would say you all had a great day of smells...Leather, the perfumery shop, and the smell of Southern cooking.. This looks like a beautiful city to visit.... thanks for sharing this adventure...I think it is so neat..
You have such lovely daughters, and they gave you a very extra special day of celebration.
It's fun to go to quaint shops and just browse, instead of the big box stores that have the same old same old...
I do love the smell of leather and would have liked being in that store.
Happy Retirement again..(:0)

The resemblances are strong in your family Mari...across all the generations, right down to the grands. Beautiful! I've never seen the home show, but the shop is gorgeous. It's a bummer that the prices are so high. That would be a big turn off for me, too. Glad you were able to enjoy the day together!
I think that it was so special, and I am glad the girls did it for you. Beautiful daughters. I have never been to Grand Rapids, but I think my parents lived there for a couple of years. Lots of history there.
I love candles and scents - unfortunately my daughter gets migraines, but I would have loved to go.
Happy Retirement
What an amazing day you had with your pretty girls. That Scent lab is very interesting.
Cathy
Even 33 degrees in brilliant sunshine is pretty nice.
Wonderful architecture!
Aroma Labs must have been very interesting but I know from experience that it doesn’t take much of scented oils for me to get a raging headache. So glad you and your girls could enjoy it.
The Established Home — now I would have loved to visit that with you!!
Congrats again on your retirement. (your girls are so good to spend time with you like this)
What a fun day with your girls!
Sorry! I accidentally hit Publish! I was saying that I couldn't think of a better way to spend the day! Your daughters are lovely. I am the same as you—I do better in the country! Congratulations again on your retirement!!!
Oh my gosh. What a wonderful day with your girls. And, that little store. What a treat. And crafting scents. Really, really nice day. Love that you did this.
This looks like a lovely day with your girls. One day in the city is always the perfect amount of time for this country girl :)
Sounds like a great day spent with your daughters.
Hi Mari, looks like a fun day with your daughters! Those are special memories for sure! I am really sensitive and have to avoid most fragrances. I like to wear essential oils and dilute them. I love to see old buildings and especially churches. Thanks for sharing!
What a fun filled happy day with your girls! what a blessing to be able to do that! I guess the dads had baby-sitting duty for the day? So nice your daughters could have a day away with you. Gosh, I am trying not to be envious. I remember shopping with my mother and sometimes my sister too. I never had daughters and my daughters in law really aren't into shopping that much...besides one is in Maine so I never see her. And my sweet Rose here is so busy working. But you've inspired me to want to at least try. Thank you for sharing your wonderful day with us.
Hi Mari! I'm back to blogging (new blog though). I've missed visiting you! What a wonderful day with your daughters. I would have really enjoyed The Established Home shop, for sure. Look at all those lovely and charming things. Wow, gorgeous! We have a building in our asmall town that looks very much like the one in your photo - with the entrance door on the corner of it. Ours was a bank decades ago... now it's offices and there are apartments on the second floor. I've followed you and also added you to my blog list. Have a very blessed day!
What a lovely day you had with your daughters, special memories.
All the best Jan
What a very fun day for you with your girls! I've read about the perfume process before, but haven't known anyone who had actually done it. That sounds and looks so cool.
Creating your own scents sounds like fun. So glad you all had a great time and the weather cooperated. What a wonderful fun packed day you had. Janice
What a fun day you had with your girls :) I'm sure I could smell the leather and candles when I looked at your second photo. (LOL)
