A little peace in chaos!

Things have been a little crazy at work again!  Our Director of Nursing didn't work out.  There is another one hired, and it's someone I used to work with, so I'm very happy.  I know her work ethic and attitude, so this will be a good thing.  However, right now she is the Director of Nursing at another facility in our corp. and they don't want her to come to us until they have a replacement for her.  So, it's been very busy because of that, and also just plain busy because of some patients who are quite complex, and also lots of people coming for short rehab stays and going home.  Admissions and discharges are more work than you would think, so when you add it all together, it's been a bit crazy!

In January, I always love to declutter and organize at home, and when I was looking at some drawer organizers, I saw this desk organizer.

This is now setting on one side of my desk.  It makes me happy to have the things I need at my fingertips and not all on top of each other in a drawer.

Here's the other side of my desk.  The flip calendar is a new addition to help keep my focus on the right things when it does get crazy.

I was in the our local Christian book store when I saw this and thought it was perfect for work.

Each day has a verse or a quote like this.  I think having something like this right by the phone so I see it all the time will be a good thing!   And I have to say, that even when it's crazy, God gives strength, right?

  1. Your desk is definitely much tidier than mine. I am still in the overall decluttering process so eventually I will have everything clutter free, yeah! LOL I hope you will get your Director of Nursing on board soon.

  3. I do understand the problems at work and hope your Director of Nusing can come soon to give you some relief. I love the organizer you found and need one myself. You inspired me to de-clutter!

  4. Organization does not come easy for me but one thing for sure I always felt more productive with an uncluttered desk and pretty office. It was work to keep it so :) Your busy days, including staffing issues, brings back memories. Love the calendar!

  5. So does your facility do rehab for orthopedics as well Mari? Lots of the nursing homes here have a wing for people who have had joint replacements. I do know a lot of elderly patient go for rehab after an illness as well. Hope your DON gets to come soon.

  6. What a perfect desk topper. I like the idea very much

It's always a good thing to have a co-worker you admire & can work well with...good things come to those who wait. (Just hope the wait isn't long)

  9. I am so sorry that the DON did not work out, but if the new one is someone you have worked with previously and know her work ethic and attitude it has to be a relief to know that she is coming. Praying that will be soon...or else how could you be able to follow the doctor's orders as far as restricting the time you are on your feet. ~wink~

Love that little flip calendar on your desk...and the Be Still picture. When I think that verse it immediately calms me down.

  10. Yes that's a nice calendar BUT you are in extra good shape with that Contigo mug (it's exactly like the one I carry around all day only mine is silver and now I want a green one, thanks for that) and your Mary Kay hand lotion. You're a hero! xoxo

  12. I know that there is a lot of paper work to be done when patients come and go, but I am happy to know that you are a very organized person and you "getter done." Hope that your director gets there soon. You need a break!

  14. Yes, he does indeed!! I had my first new patient today and had to prepare a patient file for her. Things are a bit disorganized from the previous person (who is a lovely lady and she did a great job). Some people work better in chaos but I'm not one of them. I have lots of organizing to do. I left out two pages the doctor wanted in the file and had to dig around to find them. That won't happen again!! Of course, we don't have to discharge anyone but just our little new patient file caused me a bit of stress today! Ha! I like your new organizer! Bless ALL nurses!!

  15. Oh I just love the desk calendar! Yes, we need those reminders especially in a stressful work environment. Yes, I know all about ST Rehab. I can't believe it! The facilities I worked at in the past had mostly long term residents. In the one I just left, we often had 5 admissions and 5 discharges in one day and this went on for weeks during November and December. There are now 3-4 electronic forms that have to completed for each admission and discharge and multiply that x residents. I know you know. I got a call for a position at a rehab center of 200 residents. Yikes. Say a prayer. I'm gonna try to catch up with you tonight.
