I saw something on Pinterest that I thought would be fun to do with Alaina and Ruby. We did have fun doing it, but the end result wasn't what it was supposed to be! The plan was to make a multi-colored, battery operated night light. To do this you needed a glass jar with a sealing top, a battery operated LED light and water beads.
We started with the water beads.
Alaina is looking at the tiny little beads in the bowl.
Ruby is checking them out after we covered them with water. The instructions said it would take 6-18 hours so we did this before they went to bed at night.
However, they started getting bigger immediately! After reading bedtime stories they had already grown this much!
After this the girls went to bed, and I was woken up early the next morning with urgent requests - "Grandma, we need to check the water beads!"
Look how big they got! The girls were thrilled and had fun touching and planning with them.
We have everything gathered to put our light together. The night light was light sensitive and tuned off shortly after we started because it was light outside.
The girls had fun putting handfuls of the little beads into the jar. I got to pick up the ones that fell. :)
Here is the finished product. Unfortunately the lid wouldn't close because the light was too big. Also the light didn't shine through the water beads like they said it would.
However, it wasn't a total loss! The girls had such fun playing with the beads and putting it together. They didn't really care that the light wasn't working like it was supposed to.
Well, at least they had fun. I know you thoroughly enjoyed picking up the spilled beads! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they had a blast with the beads, even if the light didn't quite turn out like it was supposed to. There are more Pinterest fails than successes, I think. Fun is fun and memories were made. That's what's important!
ReplyDeleteI've had more than a couple of Pinterest fails:( Those beads look like fun. I had to laugh when you said they started growing so fast! I wondered where it would end!
ReplyDeleteFun project with grandma! Who cares if outcome wasn't perfect, right? They truly want to be with us and spend time together. That's what counts. Must have been fun to watch the beads grow like that.
ReplyDeletetoo bad the outcome wasn't as expected...but they had fun & I could feel their excitement when the beads grew by morning!
ReplyDeleteA cute idea even if it wasnt exactly what it was supposed to be. I know the girls had fun make it and didnt even realize the light didnt shine through the beads. You sure come up with some good ideas for them. Hope you have a happy May Day!
ReplyDeleteThose water beads look really neat! I bet you could find some other fun things to do with them.
ReplyDeleteWell that was an interesting project and I am sure you will be finding beads all over your house for days to come.lol I have never seen anything like them. It is good to hear I am not the only one with a Pinterest Fail.
ReplyDeleteWished it would have turned out like it was suppose to, it would have been really pretty but most important was the fun and time with Grandma.
ReplyDeleteI've had a few pinterest fails. Mostly recipes...which is a big disappointment when you try to serve it for dinner. haha.
ReplyDeleteThey did have a lot of fun playing with the beads, lol!!
ReplyDeleteOh that was so fun! I know that the girls liked seeing them get so big.
ReplyDeleteLove that show even the "fail" of a project. Looks like it was still fun! ;) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThose water beads are fascinating! I need to get some for Dagny. Oh wait ... I have to pick up the ones that fall? Nooooo ... haaaahaha xoxo
