Winter is here!

Like many other areas in the country, we have been slammed by winter!  It was a very snowy Christmas Day, with bad roads and whiteout conditions.  By the end of the day, we had gotten 8 inches of snow.  The snow was accompanied by some very cold temps. The day after Christmas it was negative 9 at the Grand Rapids airport!  We are closer to the lake which keeps us a bit warmer, but my drive in to work in 2 degrees was still pretty chilly!
The snow continued to fall until Saturday when the sun finally came out.  By that time, we had gotten 19.5 inches.  Bob was very thankful for the good snow blower we got last year!
Here's a few pictures of what it looked like around here.

This is the neighbors farm.  I took this the day after Christmas when I was coming home from work.

This is our street on the same day.

It's hard to see, but this is the side of our driveway.  That decorative ball is about 2 feet from the ground.  The snow is not that deep everywhere though - it's been piled up there from snow blowing the driveway.

All my other Christmas decorations are down, but this wreath may have to wait a while!

Our poor bird feeder wasn't able to take the weight of all the snow on it.

Friday night Bob cleared the driveway, only to have another 7 inches fall by Saturday morning!

On Saturday around noon the sun finally came out!  We've had a little more snow since then, but in much smaller amounts.  It's very pretty, but no fun to drive in and I'm not a fan of being cold.  :)
I'm thankful God gives us different seasons and I know Spring will be coming!

  1. It was 12 here this morning and it has been cold since Sunday. We are used to cold weather for a day or two but not a whole week. It will be 38 on Saturday. We will break out our flip flops and capris.:)

  2. Oh my goodness!! The near zero temps here are almost unbearable, but at least we don't have all that snow - yet.

  3. Oh girl I do feel for you. I would have loved a snowy Christmas Day such as you had, but my interest would've waned by the next morning. I'm so sorry about the deep freeze. Sending warmest wishes for a wonderful new year to you and Bob and the rest of the family. xoxo

  4. I am going to comment on both Mon. & Tues. The snow is beautiful but that is just toooooo much. I dont know how you even drive to work in it. As for the Christmas pictures, they are so good of everyone. Ha ha ha, I noticed everyone in a couple of pictures had their shoes off and were in their socks. The girls are adorable and I love the picture where you are reading to them. So glad you had a good Christmas and hope the New Year is very good to you.

  5. It is a lot of snow. It looks beautiful but not if you have to drive in it or if you have to be outside. Keep warm. xx

Thank you for the smiles, Mari.

  9. I am so happy that we don't have to deal with snow and ice anymore! Our high 30s and mid-40s during the day have been cold enough for me! It does look pretty in pictures though! Stay warm and safe, Mari!

  12. Alan and I were talking about you at breakfast this past weekend. We were wondering how you drove through all that snow. Alan said that you probably had a four wheel drive vehicle because people in Michigan know they need one. You certainly are brave to drive in roads that don't look so clear.
