Let it snow...

We have had the most mild winter I remember.  Most of it has been spent with no snow on the ground and warmer than usual temps.  That changed this week.

This is the satellite view of our poor little mitten state - lots of snow and wind.

The storm started Monday afternoon.  The night nurse called in for that night and I ended up going in for part of the night.  This is my road at about 4am - it was a nasty drive home.  (FYI - I wouldn't have stopped in the road if there were other cars around, but I was the only crazy person out at that time!)

It continued to snow on Tuesday. All the schools were closed, and it looked quite pretty outside.

We got so much snow that it piled up on everything!

 This little bush was transformed.

And look at the snow on my clothesline!

Here's the front yard coated in white.  We got 9 inches from Monday to Tuesday night, then had a brief reprieve on Wednesday, but it started up again on Wednesday afternoon.  We ended up getting another 5 inches.  It was quite a start to our snowy season!

  1. Hi there Mari! We've had the same kind of weather. You must live west of us here in Pennsylvania as we got our first winter storm Tuesday into Wednesday. I was actually excited for the first big snow!

  3. Oh Mary, I just know I could not deal with snow anymore. Bless you for driving in that treacherous mess so early in the morning!!

  4. Ah, gorgeous! But I must say I'm surprised that Michigan schools would close for nine inches of snow ... even with five on top of that! I guess as time goes on, everybody gets more cautious. Now here in South Carolina, schools close if there's even a rumor of a millionth of an inch of snow three years up the road, haahaa. No such weather here this year, though, at least not yet. Today it was sixty degrees and sunny. I hope you don't come down with that cold, but if you do, bundle up and take it easy. xoxo

  6. But....what are the temps? I remember you sharing all the frozen lake images [at the lighthouse] one winter... So far, I guess it's not that bad.

Love the image of the small bush. A bit Christmasy out in your yard.

    4 wheel drive?

  7. You know it's serious when the schools in Michigan close. I grew up in Lexington (pointing to thumb) and school was open even when we had to stand on snowdrifts to catch the bus!

    LOVE the pics! So pretty.

  12. The bad thing about being a nurse is that weather is not a good reason to call in!! When I worked in Athens GA and we had a big snow, the hospital sent the ambulance to get NURSES.lol Stay warm.

  13. Brrrrrr, wish you didnt have to get out in it, but that is part of the price of being a nurse. I had cars come after me several times when I was still working. Stay warm and safe.

  14. The snow is beautiful to look at, but being a worry wart, I hate you having to drive in that. So, be careful. Okay? :)

  18. Sounds like the snow took it's time getting to you but when it did it opened the snow flood gates. Your pictures show such pretty scenes....

  20. How scary to have to drive in those conditions. The snow scenes around your home sure are pretty, though. Thanks for sharing the photos.

  21. Here in PA, we are not as weather hardy as those in your area.....way less than 9 closes schools here :). It's in the high 40's today and rain is on the way. I'm ok with that. We've had almost snowless winters in the past but not recently.
Enjoy the beauty (and pray for Spring, hehe)!

  22. Oh, Mari, it is so beautiful there! I wish, I dream of snow! You know I did. It's one of the desires of my heart. Crazy as it seems, I know. Do you think I could ask God for it:)

  23. You are a brave one to drive on roads that haven't been plowed at that time of the morning. I am glad that you have a vehicle that will plow through. I am sure that the Lord is with you.

The picture of the little bush is crazy beautiful. The snow has decorated it so well. You live in a beautiful part of the country with the evergreen trees. They look amazing in the snow.

    Stay warm and stay safe!

  26. Here in the Uk we had our first batch of snow. Well when I say batch, about 5mm thick. Just a light covering, but now it's very cold here. Here's to Spring! Lovely photos.
