My friend Bonnie, at White Lace and Promises posted about her Fisher Price Nativity Set and asked about her readers sets. I told her I would post about my sets, so here they are.
I have 3 Nativity sets. The first one is very simple. It's new this year, one I made with my MOPS group.
A simple Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. I needed something to put on my old scale, and I thought they fit there.
The next one is in our family room, next to the tree. This Nativity set was Bob's family's set while he was growing up. When his Mom downsized last year, it was passed to us. It's a treasure!
When Alaina was here last week, I was talking to her about setting it up. I told her it was something that had Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus in it. She replied "and Jonah!" I had to tell her that was from another Bible story. She tried to tell me it was Mary and Jonah...
This last Nativity set is very special. It's been set up in our living room for about 16 years. Our daughter Laura made it when she was 16 years old.
She made each part of this from clay. It's very detailed and is quite small. The little people are about 4 inches tall.
Here's a shot from another angle. This set has a horse, a donkey, cows, sheep and even chickens!
Mari, I love all three of these Nativity sets. Alaina is at the age where you need to write down all that she says. She will enjoy looking back at your blog one day and reading all the cute things she said. Merry Christmas to you all!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful. All so different yet all just lovely!

ReplyDeleteYour Nativity sets are all lovely, with each one touching your heart in so many ways. It's great that Alaina knows about Jonah...and now Joseph. SHe is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Each nativity is special and has a wonderful story and memory attached to it! Good for Alaina - she is learning her bible stories - even if she gets the characters a little mixed up! She is surely being raised up right! Enjoy this Christmas week!
ReplyDeleteSpecial, every one of them :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
I so wanted a Nativity scene this year...but I was too fussy. The faces had to be just right and I couldnt find what I was looking for. Maybe next year. Yours are gorgeous though Mari
ReplyDeletePhoebe x
I love all your nativity scenes, the traditional one the most. We have one too, which I bought from Ikea years ago, and the pieces are very old fashioned too, which is odd really seeing as it's from Ikea! :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Mari....Alaina sure is a blessing...many Christmas blessings to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe your daughter made that last one at that age...it is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove your MOPs nativity. It is perfect!! But my favorite would be the one your daughter made...she is very talented.
ReplyDeleteAll 3 sets of the Nativity are priceless. Enjoy this time of the year with the little ones.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, My mother made the one I have.
ReplyDeleteAlways loved that set made by Laura!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure indeed to have the one from Bob's mother! I can't even remember exactly what we had when I was a kid. I think it was made of cardboard, haha!
ReplyDeleteEach one of your Nativity sets is wonderful! The one you made at Mops is really neat. The one from Bob's mother is a treasure, but the one Heather made when she was 16 is amazing! What was I doing when I was 16?!?!? She is very talented!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing all of your nativities, Mari. What a beautiful collection and a lovely tradition too. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! Take care and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThe best part is that each set has a story! Especially like the one your daughter made -- how special!
ReplyDelete16 years ago!! It cannot have been that long... am I that much older?! Guess so. :)
ReplyDeleteWe need to work with Alaina a little more on her Bible stories - ha! I'm not going to ask her who ended up in the whale then... :)
