Look at this happy group - all's well here!
But then - Ruby realized she was in a different place and her parents were not with her. She was not happy, and she wasn't calming down.
Alaina tried to give her hugs and told her it was ok, but Ruby didn't think so. We ended up calling Laura and Aaron and they came to get Ruby. Alaina said "I can stay here though!" And she did.
The next day, Alaina and I had fun together.
I was getting her breakfast and she called me into the living room, all excited "Grandma, I found a rainbow!" She studied it and told me that she has a rainbow book at home. "A rainbow means God will never send another big flood".
We went to Grandpa's work to have lunch with him. She was amazed by this big lift and wanted me to take her picture with it.
And then came the most exciting part of the day:
You may remember that I posted about this last year. She calls these things "silly boys". This silly boy has been put away all winter and she missed him. When we drove past and she saw it, she was beyond excited. We had to stop and get out - she even touched it this year.
I think this is one of the things we lose as we get older - the joy in simple things. It's a good lesson for everyone. There are things to get joy from all around us!
I made your noodle bake this weekend. We really enjoyed it-it was even better warmed up the next day. Thanks for posting it.
ReplyDeleteLittle Ruby is so cute! In a few more weeks she'll be ready, I bet!
ReplyDeleteI remember the silly boys and how scary they were! Now she's touching them! haha...so cute!
Aww, sweet baby..... Someday she will be ok to stay. The picture of big sis comforting baby is too precious. I'm glad the big girl got to stay :)
ReplyDeleteSo great you get to spend so much time with those sweet grand daughters. Grand children are such a blessing!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mari...what adorable grandchildren you have! And so sweet that the older one wanted to comfort the younger... Reminds me so much of when I was small and visiting my grandma with my sister! ...Sweet memories:)
ReplyDeleteIt is so important to enjoy the simple things in life and I think children do...they share this joy with us if we would just stop to see. And I think you did! Aww...so glad you had a special time!
Much love and hugs,
Kelly-Anne
Very cute grandchildren. I love being around children because they do not ever lose their joy in the simplest things in life. I try to see life through the eyes of a child as much as I can :-)
ReplyDeleteRuby will soon realize how special time with grandparents is!! Alaina is such a beautiful girl, and how great that she finds joy in simple things. Yes, you are right, Mari. We all need to slow down and appreciate the beauty and joy around us. We all need a "silly boy" in our lives!!
ReplyDeleteAwww...poor Ruby. Alaina is growing up quickly. And I so agree...as adults we do lose that sense of looking for and enjoying the simple pleasures that are all around us.
ReplyDeleteSimple pleasures indeed!!! My goodness, but both girls are sure growing ...all too quickly.
ReplyDeleteLunch with Grandpa....that was the topping on the cake for him I bet!!!
Oh that picture of Alaina trying to comfort Ruby is so sweet. I wanted to hug both of them!!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like seeing the world through a child's eyes.
ReplyDeleteRuby and Alaina look so much alike and are both just precious. Alaina was ready to spend some 'me' time alone...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Alaina was able to stay because it looks like she had lots of fun. You know, I was just telling my daughter about Alaina and the silly boy the other day! We passed one and she got excited because she likes them too. So I told her about a little girl whose grandma is my friend and how the little girl calls them silly boy. She loved that! She would have fun with Alaina, I think. :)
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughter are beautiful! I love how Alaina is hugging her sister to comfort her! And what a smart girl to know about the promise of the rainbow.
ReplyDeleteIt is something how different our grandbabies are. But she will come around latter, we had one like that her mother couldn't leave the room she would cry.
ReplyDeleteShe was breast fed.
Just love these treasured moments with your sweet Alaina (Ruby will get on board soon too) - and can just feel the fun and love come through the screen.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're absolutely right about enjoying the simple things. Those kiddos can teach us a lot.
thanks for sharing your beautiful family. xoxo
I love those too Alaina! I love watching how they dance! Makes me smile and I think things that make us smile are missing in the world today. Just being around children can show us just how much of life we are missing out on.
ReplyDeleteLove and Hugs ~ Kat
she will make an excellent blogger - having her picture taken with random things :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to be reminded of the joy in simple things!! xx
ReplyDeleteIn the second picture, Ruby really looks like her father. I think it is the eyes, if I remember him right. Oh, it won't be long before Alaina will not be able to go with you without her. It will be here before you know it.
ReplyDeleteWon't be long until Ruby will be as excited and eager to stay. Your grands are so blessed to have you two as their grandparents. It is definitely a reciprocal thing.
ReplyDeleteHi Mari, Somehow I have lost your blog in my feed. You may remember I have a new url. I just want to say how sweet the girls are. Alaina is so tall now and Ruby is growing too. They will be such good friends growing up together. I always think of Alaina at the Mex restaurant here with the silly boy. Hope you'll visit when you have the time.
ReplyDeleteLove those pictures - the one of Ruby looking startled is so funny - like, "Wait! Where am I?" And of course the one of Lain trying to comfort Ruby is so sweet! Breaks my heart. I'm so glad to know Alaina knew what the rainbow meant - I've told her a few times, but I never know if she's getting it! :)
ReplyDeleteI could so relate to Ruby not being ok without her mamma. My own kids were never ok without me until they were much older than she is. Bianca and Sammy with Jenn's folks overnight a few weeks ago. They said Bianca sobbed for three hours! I haven't tried keep her overnight yet. I wouldn't be able to call Mommy and Daddy if I did, haha!
ReplyDeleteAwwww! You won't believe this but I saw a silly boy the other day and instantly thought of Alaina and her affinity for silly boys. I like Ruby; she speaks her mind. LOLOL xoxo
