Yes, it's been a little cold here, and we've had plenty of snow. But, it's been nothing like last winter and we're doing alright.
However, there is a place in Detroit that's seen too much ice and cold.
Apparently there was a fire at this house and the landlord had it locked. He forgot something important though - he didn't turn the water off. Three days later, the house looked like this!
The pipes froze and burst, leaving water running all over the house, and then out the windows and doors.
The outside looks bad enough, but inside one floor collapsed and all the belongings are covered with ice too.
Apparently the problems didn't end there. The water ran out into the street and several neighbors cars were frozen to the road.
The house will now have to be torn down.
Isn't it incredible what water and freezing temps can do?
Oh dear, oh dear! That's just horrible. Looked like a cute house, too!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful, though, at least until spring... ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! What a terrible tragedy for those owners! A pretty house that now has to be demolished. I hope their insurance covers it, since it was negligence on their part. Whew!
ReplyDeleteWOW! It is incredible! What a shame that his investment is now ruined.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. This is just tragic. It looks like it had been such a lovely home at one time.
ReplyDeleteHave never seen anything like this....what horrible damage it did.
ReplyDeleteWe all consider a fire to destroy a house, but never thought about ice doing it. So sad. Surely winter cant last too much longer....can it?
ReplyDeletewow.....living where we do it is hard to imagine that!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. There aren't words. That is crazy!! Poor poor lovely house now will disappear. What a shame, just from a mindless mistake. Water is one powerful element not to be messed with I guess!!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable how nature takes over! If that happened to my house, I would cry and then my tears would freeze and I'm not sure what would happen then. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, I've never seen anything like that before. I feel so bad for the homeowners and the neighbors that had cars parked nearby.
ReplyDeleteThat is just awful !
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you, so cold and so much snow.
Oh my, how awful for the owners! Very tragic indeed.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you!
Oh It's sad that such a beautiful house had to ve torn down. When I saw the picture, first thing that came to my mind was, did that house gave a fountain on the windows?
ReplyDeleteThe icicles look great but in this case it's just horrible really.

that's gorgeous! but awful for the property owners.
ReplyDeletenot to brag, but i napped outside in my hammock this weekend!
Incredible!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely unbelievable!!!! I have never heard of such a horrible combination of catastrophes!
ReplyDeleteOh no! That is terrible. Everyone around here has to be careful to keep pipes from freezing during the coldest parts of winter, but I've never actually seen damage like that.
ReplyDeleteThere's a story, which we sometimes talk about when we're worried we forgot something, about a couple who were going on vacation, and halfway to their destination the wife said, "Oh no, honey, the house is going to burn down; I left the iron on!" The husband nonchalantly replied, "Don't worry; it won't burn down. I left the bathtub running." Never heard of anything so close to that (probably untrue) story before...in this case it's not funny.
Oh my goodness, how awful. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a story! Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteOh no! How terrible!
ReplyDeleteI am speechless! It does look pretty neat but how sad for this to have happened.
ReplyDeleteOh no, what a beautiful house too. How sad, and yes it's amazing how much damaged water can do!
