Look at these acorns. They look pretty innocent, don't they? They're not! The acorns on our oak trees have been ganging up on us!
We have 11 oak trees in our front yard, so we often have quite a few acorns in the yard. This year is unlike any other though. They've been falling off the trees with such force that we hear them hitting the roof and rolling down when we're inside. Sometimes it sounds like someone is throwing rocks up there.
Not only are they noisy, they are plentiful. Last week Bob raked half the yard and got 3 wheelbarrows full of acorns. Sadly, the area he raked is full of acorns again.
This is what our yard looks like. You can't take a step without stepping on several acorns.
Have you ever seen this many acorns in one yard?
Wow, that is a lot of acorns and a lot of work to get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen so many acorns! What do you do with them once they are gathered?
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is "Three wheel barrows full in half a yard?" Oh my goodness. I'm sure it was from the long, hard, cold and snowy winter from last year...don't you?
ReplyDeleteI have never ever seen so many acorns! As Lauren asked above, what do you do with them after gathered? We have a walnut tree in the back yard and the walnuts fall too, but not nearly as many as your acorns. Have a good weekend ahead.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have never! But I'd love to have your trees in my yard!
ReplyDeleteIt's walnuts here! Many, many walnuts. Unable to help this year, the task of pickup has fallen completely on my husband...
ReplyDeleteFor those that wondered about what we do with the acorns? Bob dumps them in the woods. I don't know of any way to use them, but the squirrels and chipmunks enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteWow! I have never seen that many myself. I wonder if it means it was a good year for oak trees? Or is it's going to be a rough winter?
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for your husband. Those nuts would wreak havoc on a lawn mower, wouldn't they? It might be time to pull out that wheelbarrow again this weekend :(
Blessings,
Ceil
Oh wow! That's a lot of acorns and a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteWOW. No, not ever! Be careful where you walk!

Mari,
ReplyDeleteJust think of all the crafts you can work on with that many acorns?!! I think I remember that when you get a ton of them, it means that it will be a cold and wet winter!

wow, three wheel barrows full is A LOT!!! We in the south, are a bit jealous of your beautiful colors but that is one thing I am glad we don't have much off!!! :)
ReplyDeleteELEVEN OAK TREES??? Mercy, I thought we dealt with a lot, with just the one! Now, a few years ago we had a veritable bumper crop of acorns. Poor TG raked and piled and gathered so many times, he was well nigh tuckered out by the time the onslaught abated. This year there seems to be a more normal number of acorns raining down from our massive oak, but still ... watch out! Erica was getting into her car in our driveway last week and one narrowly missed her pretty little noggin! And yes ... when they fall onto the house it sounds like somebody up there is throwing big rocks at us! I love it. xoxo
ReplyDeleteLook at those acorns all over the yard! It looks so pretty for Autumn :) We have several acorn bushes here in the woods and the bears love to eat them.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Bob needs a yard vacuum to suck up all those acorns. I have heard that deer eat them.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of acorns. Your yard must be nice and shady in the summer.
ReplyDeleteThat is A LOT of acorns! Our black walnuts also fall making it sound like someone is out in the pasture. Kind of spooky! lol
ReplyDeleteI found this site with acorn recipes for you. :)

Also, maybe not such good news, Tasha said she heard that when there is a good harvest of things in the fall, it means God is providing for the animals for a long, hard, winter. Yikes!
Wow! I've never seen so many acorns. When I was a kid, a walnut tree hung over my bedroom and during the night I would hear them hit the roof and then roll down.
ReplyDeleteI remember living in a house, when I was a child, that had oak trees. Although I don't remember a lot of acorns, I do remember them hurting our feet if we were barefooted.
