Ice storm

Last week while I was taking a break here, we had a major ice storm. It was on Sunday morning and almost everything was closed. I had to work and I really think the roads were about the worst I've driven on. When I got to work, I hardly dared to pick up my feet as I walked in because the parking lot was like a skating rink. Here's a few pictures to show what it looked like.

Some of the ornamental grasses in front of the nursing home give you an idea of the coating of ice on everything.

A car in the parking lot has an extra coating.

This leaf is encased in ice.

Mid morning, it started to snow...

Those same ornamental grasses now are covered with white.

My street, when I returned home.

It truly did look like a winter wonderland!

Wow - that is some ice storm. Beautiful to look at but no fun to walk and drive in. Glad you stayed safe! Have a Happy New Year!

Beautiful to look at but those were the worst roads I have ever driven on as well!

So pretty but so treacherous! I have thought about you so many times, and what you're dealing with. Stay safe and warm my friend.

That's a lot of ice. I love the look of it but it can be so dangerous. I took a very bad fall in an ice storm years ago and broke my elbow and my arm has never been quite right since. I am glad you were able to stay safe in the storm. Thank you for your dedication to your patients in any weather!

I see this beauty, and I see danger and hazardous conditions!! Glad to know you made it to work and home safely tho.

I was thinking about you and knew this was in your area.

As everyone else said, it is both beautiful and hazardous. Thankful you made it to work and then home. Praying for a good 2014.

It really does look beautiful, but I well remember how treacherous it is to walk/drive on. I know you will be careful, but I can't help saying to be safe!!

Happy New Year, too!!

Those are some of the most beautiful ice pictures I have ever seen. I am so thankful that you all were safe in that storm. Even walking on it can be so dangerous. Happy New Year!

I wouldn't have liked to drive on that sheet of ice, but it is so pretty on the plants. Happy New Year!

I'm terrified of driving on ice. Too many bad experiences.

When I was a teenager, I worked at a nursing home in the dining room, starting at 5:30 AM. I left home in what I thought was rain, but was actually ice. I kept needing to try different ways to get there because of cars that were blocking the roads. Finally, about two miles from the nursing home, I could not control my car at all. I pulled it to the edge, got out and walked in the freezing rain in the dark. I really thought I might get hit by a car and die. It was so terribly scary. (No cell phones back then!) When I arrived, I discovered I had dropped one of my shoes along the way, so I had to work in my boots!
