Artist reception

Yesterday I told you I would share our purchase from the antique and collectable place.   This is it.  It's an iron piece from the railing of a home built in 1880.  It was black and the paint was peeling off it.  Bob cleaned it up and used a patina finish on it.  We think it looks nice out in the flower garden!

~~~
Wednesday evening I was invited to go to Grand Valley State University to attend an artist reception for Cyril Lixenberg.  Cyril is from the Netherlands and is a well known artist in Europe, doing both paintings and sculptures.  He has been commissioned for several sculptures in West Michigan and is currently completing one for the City of Holland.  He is here in the States this month and will be receiving an honorary doctorate at both GVSU and Hope College.  Both colleges are also having a showing of his work.
Here I am with Cyril, and 2 other nurses (Nancy and Sherri)  from the nursing home I work at.  We know Cyril because he comes to visit a lady at our home, whenever he comes to the U.S.   He also jokes with us, asking if we have a room for him, so when we went to the reception, we took admission paperwork along.  Cyril is 81, but he sure doesn't look it!
The art display and reception were very nice!
This reception was put together by GVSU and the Netherlands consulate.  We were surprised to get back to our car and find that we were parked next to the consulate's vehicle.
GVSU has beautiful grounds and we enjoyed our walk back to the car.
This was held on 9/11 and we came across these flags set up to commemorate that day.  There was a flag to commemorate each person and one for each country that was affected.
 A touching display.
I love the iron architectural piece in your garden.
That's a cute photo of you and the artist and he is a good sport about "his" room.
Lovely gardens and display of flags.
Mari, your iron piece is beautiful and your hubby certainly did a great job restoring it....
What a treat to get to see Cyril again. He certainly doesn't look his age....
I love what you did with the iron piece. It looks great in your garden!
How nice to enjoy the artist opening, and to know him personally! I need to look him up and check out his art. Great photo of you and the artist and your co-workers, and how cute to bring admission papers!
Very nice piece and bet it looks much better since your hubby refinished. Glad you got to go to the art exhibit and speak with the artist too.
Great iron piece; cleaned up so nice. I didn't know you nob-nailed with such important people. How do you stay so humble? lol
(I'm kiddin) Sounds like you had a great time.
It's so nice to see those trees changing already at the university. Fall is really coming. I love the metal piece you brought home; I have little things like that around my yard, albeit new junk from Hobby Lobby, but I really love the look of metal accents like that. :)
