We had a fun night with friends this weekend.
We started with supper at their house. Their property connects to a nature center, and the dining room is ceiling to floor windows so we enjoyed sitting there feeling like we were surrounded by the great outdoors.
While we were eating, these guys came into the back yard to have a little snack of their own.
After supper, we had a the chance to do something unusual. An Antique car club in the area was sponsoring a drive in movie, featuring a silent movie for the antique cars.
Our friend has a beautiful 1929 Model A which we got to ride in to the movie. We've never had the chance to ride in an antique car and we really enjoyed it.
This is his car. Isn't it a beauty?
Do you know how the trunks on cars came to be called trunks? Early cars had actual trunks that could be added. Because they were so prone to rust, it's rare to find an antique car with one like this now.
Here's some of the other cars that were there. Do you see the blue one in the upper right corner? It was built in 1960, which is the same year I was born. I think that makes me an antique too!
The sky was beautiful as we waited for sunset.
Then came the movie. It was an old Buster Keaton movie, complete with the old piano music.
We almost felt like we stepped back in time. Good times!
Sounds like a wonderful time.,........
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great time! What neat friends! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fantastic night! Are those raccoons? The Model A looks beautifully restored. I've never been to a drive in movie - sounds like a lovely night to remember!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun - his car is really great!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun...including a good time for the raccoon's.
ReplyDeleteI remember going to the drive-in as a youngster. Kids usually fell asleep in the backseat, it was lots of fun!
What a rare opportunity this was! I love your car photos. I was born in 57 and always wanted a black 57 Chevy!
ReplyDeletelove the picture of the "trunk"!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mari! What a treat! I would have enjoyed every last moment of that evening, as I'm sure you did. I'm so glad you had the opportunity to do that. Re your comment on my blog: I know. I hate winter too, and I try not to think of fall as the portal to drear bleak cold. We are so fortunate here to have mild winters, although I admit to wishing for a gentle blanket of snow when I am ensconced in my warm cozy house. How I wish there were a switch we could throw after setting a dial for the exact climactic conditions we're in the mood for! Until then, I guess we have to take the bad with the good. When it's four below zero in Michigan and I'm looking for just the right sweater to wear outdoors, you'll have my full sympathies! :-D
ReplyDeleteHow fun to get to ride in that old car. You probably thought you were in a parade with all the stares you must have gotten. I always stare at old cars.
ReplyDeleteWow! What an interesting evening (I probably would have been content to just sit and watch nature out that beautiful window). But the drive-in in those classy cars sounds wonderful, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!!! Must have been a hoot riding in that car!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! We love antique car shows, and the chance to see them up-close. The idea of hosting a drive-in with silent movie for antique cars is just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your friend’s car, Mari! It reminds me so much of that car from the movie Titanic, where Rose and her mom rode going to the pier. This is why I love going to car shows! There are so many great vintage cars being displayed. *drool* ^__^
