I told you yesterday I was going to share one of the highlights of our trip and here it is!
As we made our way through Fort Donelson we came upon this sign:
As we made our way through Fort Donelson we came upon this sign:
Across the field from the sign we could see this tree. The dark spot, near the top of it is an eagle nest. It was neat to see the nest, but I remarked that it would be so much better to actually see a bald eagle.
We went on to the next stop, where we were looking out over the Cumberland River. Andy had climbed a hill where there was a lookout, when he yelled "Look up!"

What a majestic sight!
Another eagle then landed in a tree near us.
I had never seen a bald eagle other than those in captivity. It was a wonderful moment, and we thought it was especially meaningful to see our national symbol flying over a civil war battlefield.
Now that had to be once of the best thing that I have heard of.I seen the Buzzards of hinckly here in Ohio.thanks for sharing these great photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat experience. Thanks so much for the awesome pics!
ReplyDeletehow beautiful Mari. I love seeing such animals close up.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos. I have another person who's blog I read that has the same title as you. Would you believe she was talking about Eagles too! She was saying they turned the cameras off the nest in VA because something has happened to the little bird. I'm enjoying reading your adventures!
ReplyDeleteGREAT pictures! There are a couple of pairs of bald eagles that nest near our town. I never tire of seeing them and always feel blessed when the soar overhead and we catch a glimpse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasure that had to be!
ReplyDeleteThat is so amazing. It is really neat to see them free and soaring like that; it just takes your breath away.
ReplyDeleteJ loves eagles so I couldn't wait to show him your pictures. You had a great view of them. I wonder how many babies were in the nest?
ReplyDeleteA triumphant moment for any photographer.
ReplyDeleteWow. What a wonderful treat to see these majestic birds.
ReplyDeleteI believe you!! The first time we toured Fort Washington, we had 3 eagles play in the sky just over our heads. It is something I will never forget!!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? You captured don beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! That truly is an awesome sight. I have never seen one in the wild either.
ReplyDeleteOh, how beautiful! You must have an amazing camera to get such good pics, too! Or maybe it's just the photographer. =)
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful. I did see some right by our house a few years ago. So neat to see!
ReplyDeleteOh my yes!!!! These are fabulous photos!! When we lived in Colorado, we had a bunch of eagles [golden and bald] nesting in the rock abutments of the foothills just adjacent to our property. And then, when Bud and I married and had a home of our own...we had TWO in our yard!! Talk about squealing with delight. I've got pictures of them too.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine what our national bird would be like if we actually took up Benjamin Franklin's idea of having the TURKEY? [I think it was Franklin anyway]
What wonderful photos, Mari! Eagles are so thrilling to see in the wild. I've seen them on a couple of occassions, and was so excited I could only fumble with my camera. I'm impressed at your skill. :0)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, that's amazing. That's funny because I was just talking about the bird spotting film "The Big Year" on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how special it was to see the bird over the Civil War battleground! Actually, we have seen a few around here - they've caused quite a stir. How great that you got the photos - and GOOD ones, at that!
ReplyDeleteWow Mari, what a treat!!!! Gorgeous. A great memory. So glad Andy was there too and you all were able to see it together.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kat
