ReplyDeleteYep, every single one. Believe it or not you could make money now on those metal ice cube trays, especially the ones that were pinkish looking.

First time we ever learned of McDonald's was during hubby's seminary days in Sioux Falls, SD. They were for special occasions, lol! There was a gas war on during our 3 years there - I think it went down to $.25. Hubby learned how to drive during that time! Thanks for the memories - all familiar! I should pin them!

ReplyDeleteHad forgotten all about Green stamps. When we got married in 67, we redeemed ours to get a hand-held viewer to see the slides printed from our little camera. Did those things really happen? Thanks for the memories

ReplyDeleteThe two that resonated most with me are the metal ice cube trays and the S&H Green Stamps. It has to do with the feel of the heavy metal cubes and having to run hot water over them to release the handle, and sometimes even then it wouldn't pull back. That thing was so COLD!!! And the S&H Green Stamps that covered the page and made it all stiff, the empty squares begging to be covered with their own damp stamps. I remember the redemption stores with toasters and such lined up so temptingly. Those were the good old days. Thanks for reminding me, Mari.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! My father gave my youngest son Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs for Christmas. He has loved them. They are all over his room and the rest of the house as well. And just for the record, I wish gas was only .50 cents.
ReplyDeleteI love taking a trip down memory lane. Sweet innocent times. I had the "privledge" of gluing the green stamps in the book! I also remember getting a glass or dish towel in a box of detergent. It seems like extra give aways have all but disappeared doesn't it?
ReplyDeletei went to a 50th birthday party (coworker of jay's) and as the center piece they had used candies that were popular the year of his birth. i thought that was a clever idea.

ReplyDeleteI still get jiffy pop. I remember the green stamps where you saved up for things I wonder why they don't try this type of thing now when so many people are on hard times. They should be able to come up with something similar. Also my mom loved those trays. The ice cubes popped out so easy, now all we have is plastic that is probably poisoning us. Seems like old ways can be better ways at times. Penny candy, oh how I loved this.

ReplyDeleteS&H stamps! We used to fight over who got to fill the books. And then had so much fun looking through the catalog to see what we could get with them. Fun times!
