Works for me Wednesday

My tip for today is about something we all have to do whether we like to or not - pay bills.
When I pay bills that are regular monthly bills, like electric, gas and phone, I round up the amount I pay. So, if the bill was $67.35, I would probably round it to $70. The extra goes to my next bill and it makes it easier to keep track of the amount left in the checking account.
On things like car payments or house payment, I always try to add extra so it's paid off quicker, even if it's only $20. It makes a difference in the long run!

  2. Great ideas! We were doing the same thing with my son's car payment and I was amazed how adding that little extra paid it down quicker.
    Happy Wednesday.

  3. That's a great tip on paying a little extra on mortgage and car. We paid our house off in less than 15 years by making an extra principal payment each month. For the first few years, it was only $30 or a little more each month and every time we did it, a whole payment dropped off the end of the schedule. Interest is evil!

I try to forget bills... and think that when I can pay, I'm rich :)

  5. Good idea Mari. But, wouldn't it be better for all of us just to NOT pay?!! [kidding] Of course, that is ONLY IN DREAMS.

  8. My husband likes to do that, too. We just got a whopping propane bill--over a thousand dollars for this last fill. :( Sometimes, I have to remind myself not to worry. That God is still in control.

Your advice spot on. It really helps to be ahead on a few things when you get hit with something like this.

  10. It's amazing how quickly paying a little extra a month on loans can knock down that balance.

I've been doing this with bills lately...rounding up when we have the wiggle room in the budget. It's amazing that some months the rolled over credit was enough to make the next month easier to pay the bills. With the extra amount freed up, I could send more to loans and whatnot. I love the rolling overages!

  11. I am for anything that will help pay them off quicker.
I just hate sending a bill in because it seems like they just turn around and send me another.LOL
We have a budget plan with the electric and gas. I like it as I usually have credit coming back in April. As cold as we were this yr I might not get back any.blah

  13. That's good planning. You never miss those few extra dollars you put towards a bill, but you can waste it without a though.
