Update on Heather

Heather had an appointment with a neurology specialist today. Before I give you that report, I have to share some pictures of the morning.
Have you been in any of the public bathrooms that have the new high pressure hand dryers? I used it this morning, then made Heather come in and use her young hands for a demonstration. She was a little worried about what people would think if they saw us both go into the bathroom, then heard us talking about taking pictures, but for your benefit she agreed. :)

Here's what her hand looks like normally.
~~~
And here it is under the dryer. Can you see how much force is coming from that dryer? That's why I wanted a young hand - who knows what my hand would have looked like!
~~~
Now for the report:
The Dr said that from the reports and talking to us, it doesn't necessarily look like a seizure, but it can't be ruled out either. She also conferred with another neurologist and they decided to start her on a low dose of an anti-seizure drug. One of the main reasons for doing this is the fact that Heather is diabetic. If she should have this confusion again, and not turn off her insulin pump or forget to eat it could be dangerous. This drug is one that is known for rarely having side effects and not interacting with other medications. One thing that will be a little difficult is that she can't drive now for 6 months, so we will be doing a little bit of taxi service, but that's a small price.
She will also be having another EEG in a few weeks. This will be longer and more in depth than the one in the hospital, so maybe something will be seen there.
Thanks for your prayers and concerns. God has truly taken care of Heather through this and given us all a sense of peace as well.

  3. Mari, I was just thinking of your daughter and got on her specifically to see if you had an update for us. I'm glad to hear the doctors are still trying to get to the bottom of this and not just throwing their hands in the air. I'll keep praying for answers and a solution!

    That is one powerful hand dryer! I'd hate to see what it would do to your face.....it might blow an eye out or somethin'! LOL

  4. Oh Mari...
    God is so good to us. He is looking after your precious Heather, and we know she is going to be okay. God Bless Her Heart. I will be praying that this medication is the right for her, and she will not run into any more problems.

    I can just see you two going into the bathroom, and drawing a little bit of a crowd when they heard you were going to take pictures. Ha! Ha! Ha! You so made my evening sweetie.

    Thank you as you aer so precious.
    Have a good one. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  8. As you know, I'm standing along side of you and praying for Heather.

    As for the hand dryer...I just used one for the first time in Chicago. It just about blew my skin off, LOL. I thought it was so cool I wanted to use it again, but felt silly with all the women in the restroom. Leave it to you to take a photo...bawahahahaha! Mari, your rock!

    I'm feeling better today some, and wanted to stop by and thank you for the 'get well wishes' you sent along.

  10. It's good to hear that Heather is doing well. Glad the Dr. is keeping his eye on it.
    I'm real glad I was not with you guys when you took the picture of the hand - I have a mental picture of what my hand would have looked like.... I don't let my hands hang down anymore for fear I will scare people. Ha ha Humor is a good thing to have when one grows old or older.

  12. The first time I used one of those dryers was at the mall in Virginia. There aren't many around yet, but they have one at the office in our dentist's office, where we were just Wednesday! The good thing is, they dry your hands FAST.

    Glad for the update on Heather and that she lives right there with you so you can be her taxi service. Hope you get some more definitive answers with the next EEG.

  13. Thanks for the update on Heather. She has a lot of prayer support. :)

    Those dryers scare my little guy to death. It only took one time hearing that noise, and now he doesn't want to even go in if there is one in there. It doesn't matter how badly he has to go.

    I saw a new dryer in Chicato. It was shaped like a U and you put your hands down in it. Took me a while to figure out it was a dryer! L0l! But it worked.

  16. My middle sister (Emily's mom) had to be put on anti-seizure meds quiet a while back. She had a grand mal (sp?) seizure while she was sleeping and made a MESS of her tongue from biting it. It was really weird. She hasn't had any symptoms of it since just that one time. Still very scary.
    The part about the dryers... I thought you were going to say it blew her ring right off because I think they could. LOL!

  17. Thanks for the update on Heather. I was wondering how she was doing and if there were any more results from tests. I'll be waiting with you to see how she does on this anti-seizure medicine. I'm sure she will miss the driving. Someone in our S.S. just got back to driving, after having to wait 6 mos. after a seizure and she's been so happy to have her wheels again!

  18. Mari,

    Who would have thought this was possible from a hand dryer? Yikes, I guess I'll be using paper towels instead.

    So glad that they have some answers for Heather right now and that God will continue to guide her doctors in finding out exactly what is going on. Keeping her close to my prayers!

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  19. Glad that the Dr.s are getting at least some ideas of what to try to avoid future serious troubles. Praying for continued discoveries regarding what to do to prevent the problem.

    I was so shocked the first time I used one of those dryers. I kept punching the button to see it happen again. I couldn't believe the force.

    I HATE those crazy hand dryers! It seems they have them everywhere I go anymore. Destiny thinks they're hysterical, especially when she sees my loose skin blow around!
