My tip for today is about spam. I've recently started having problems with spam on my blog. It's so frustrating to look at your comments and find ads, rambling things that make no sense, or worse - filthy comments.
I have always hated word verification, because it adds a lot of time to me giving comments and sometimes prevents it. So - I really didn't want to add it to my blog.
Instead, I started comment verification. This means that before any comments are published to my posts, I have to agree to them. Anything that is spam, I can just delete. This lets my readers not have to deal with the annoying word verification and lets me avoid spam.
It works for me!

ReplyDeleteI hate to do that some time back, too, Mari and have been quite pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteSusan
I took off my word verification as well and there is one spammer that cuts and pastes an identical comment that has already been made and then posts a link to an advertisement.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to get to the point of moderating but I may have to as well.
......but where do we find out how to DO the comment verification for Blogspot? Is this the same as comment moderation?
ReplyDeleteI don't like, never did have the word verification on my blog...they are too frustrating and time consuming.
I have had a lot of problems lately with spammers too and lately it seems like an almost every day occurrence. I hated to do it but I started using comment moderation recently and so far I like it!
ReplyDeleteI find it funny that my old blog gets spam. How weird is that!!!
ReplyDeleteI wondered why you changed the procedure. Someone always as to spoil a good thing, eh.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a lot of problems with spam. So far.
ReplyDeleteI don't allow anonymous comments, though.
thankfully i haven't had that problem yet, but that's an excellent solution. i don't want word verification to keep me from getting (real) comments.
ReplyDeleteMari,
ReplyDeleteI've had the very same thing happen in my comments on several posts, random characters that don't make sense from no real person. Even with word verification I can't weed them out but I hope it doesn't get to where I have to moderate comments prior to having them appear on my post.
I guess it's just one of those things that the enemy loves to use against us, using blogging for God's work. .

My one consolation w/ the spam is that apparently it means the spammers think my blog is worth the time to spam it! lol
ReplyDeleteHaven't gone to comment verification yet, but might have to at some point.
Blessings,
Amy
I have had to do that too and it seems to be working well.
ReplyDeleteGood advice. I hate word verification and I've almost stopped commenting on blogs that use it!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I do to.
ReplyDeleteI don't like that word verification thing too but I've had some horrible spam so I had to put it.
ReplyDeleteI hate word verification...it's a pain. But I also don't like spam and have just started getting hit with it. I'll hold out as long as posssible, but a person has to do what a person has to do!
ReplyDeleteI always hated that word verification also. I am thinking about doing a new blog again. I am happy that I found you again.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to find you again.
ReplyDeleteI also hated the word verification also.
