Did you know that January was National Hobby Month? I've had several hobbies, but my latest is knitting. My niece, Katelyn taught a few of us how to knit on Christmas day and I've been enjoying it ever since. I made myself a scarf to wear with my coat and have been enjoying it in the cold. Now I'm working on this one, to wear with another coat. The yarn is so soft and fuzzy, I know it'll be great to use! I even got this cute basket to keep my stuff in!
I'm going to have to try something new though, because both Laura and Heather learned to knit too and I can't keep making scarves!
What about you? Do you have a hobby?

Hi Mari,
ReplyDeleteToday was my 1st post since Christmas. I hope you had a nice holiday, and haven’t had to do much digging out from the white stuff. We finally got our first snowfall about a week ago. Every time I heard the G R weather reports I thought of you. My hubby was finally able to use his new snow blower that had been sitting idle in the garage.
I like your new hobby. I have tried to learn knitting a few times, but being left handed found it difficult to learn. You’re off to a great start and I will be expecting a sweater soon, no pressure or anything!
Cathy
Knitting really is coming back. My twenty-year-old college-student niece knits all the time at our family gatherings. Jeremy even knits! I used to, but not for years. I think I should try it again.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy sewing, but haven't done much of that either lately. Of course, playing piano is high on my list.
you betcha! learned to knit last year. sewing small projects like aprons; embroidery vintage tea towels; painting everything that doesn't move....
ReplyDeletei would love to know how to knit...is it hard? it appears to be. my greatest hobby is sewing. it makes me relax and feels so good when i get something made that i love.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy paper crafting. Not so much conventional scrapbooking, but using paper to alter things, clipboards, giant puzzle pieces, board books, blocks.
ReplyDeleteAlong those lines I'm enjoying fixing up items ready for the dump and giving them new life.
I didn't know this was national hobby month. I did go and learn something new tonight that I'll be posting about soon that is similar to what you are doing. I'm crocheting a baby blanket right now for my new grand-baby that will be here in March and I also like sewing. But my passion is reading.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think I'd have good enough focus to knit. I can crochet but counting and all of that would drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more of your creations.
Hobbies...drawing, painting, cooking, writing, playing piano, fishing, sewing, crafts. I think that's it for now.
I use to embroidery & do a lot of counted cross-stitch and my home is full of items I made, but don't any more.

I want to learn to crochet or do socks or something! Still working on Shaelyn's scarf too.
ReplyDeleteThat Katelyn, isn't she something? Her gift is probably not knitting, it is either teaching or encouraging or administrative in bringing people together. She is just using knitting to do it. Ha! Ha! Your scarves are beautiful! I love that all of you are involved.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh, good for you!! I tried to learn to knit and got as far as actually mastering the casting on...but from there? Pfffft!! I went back to crocheting. LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Mari.
Wish I could knit...my hubbys gran tried to teach me. That should tell you something. Wish I could!
ReplyDeleteI just started knitting again too. It is very relaxing for me.
ReplyDeleteDoes blogging count?
ReplyDelete:-D
so i'm guessing all of your family got scarves for christmas? :)
ReplyDeletereading is probably my only hobby - i'm a terribly exciting person! :P
Does eating count?
ReplyDeleteNo? Oh well.
Lately I've wanted to learn how to knit, and I noticed our community center is offering classes. I think I will sign up. Also a new Hobby Lobby opened up in town..gotta check that out!
My hobby is avoiding hobbies.
ReplyDeleteI just finished embroiderying a scarf for our chest in the bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI also am into card-making. I rarely buy a boughten card anymore.
Knitting sounds like a great hobby!
ReplyDeleteMy current and only hobby is blogging. But one of these days I would love to find something a little craftier to do.
Maybe one of these days I'll learn knitting. My mom does, but I don't have the slightest clue. I'm just crochet and cross-stitch on the needlework side, with some sewing thrown in (but only enough to be really dangerous).
ReplyDeleteQuilting in the crafty sense. I find it relaxing.
ReplyDeleteReading just for fun.
Writing to keep my sanity :-)
Mari - I enjoy knitting too. I want someone to teach me how to crochet.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy scrapbooking Phil's sporting events.
That's such a good question. So often we moms of little ones forsake our hobbies in the craziness of life. But there is nothing more refreshing than endulging in something we "used to" like to do. :)
ReplyDeleteNow, what did I use to like to do before kids....hmmmm....Lol! Gardening, woodworking, reading, writing and jogging. I think I'll just stick to writing for now. :)
I envy those that can knit. I really do. I love wearing scarves and would love to be able to make some to match my outfits. No time now though. Maybe after the wedding.
ReplyDeleteMy hobbies...biking, tennis and blogging, of course.
Hugs!
Kat
You could make one to give away. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI learned to crochet a few years ago, but I haven't picked it up for a while.
Oh my gosh! I wish I could learn that quickly. I bought the supplies (err... my husband did) while I was at home w/ the swine flu in September. I couldn't figure the darn things out... even w/ the "Beginner" books... "easiest enough for a kid to do"... LOL! I'm taking a class starting February 22. I just hope not to be the youngest one in there by decades ;)
