Today's Works for me Wednesday is a special edition on cleaning tips, so I have a tip for a cleaning solution. I was having a problem getting the mirror in our main bathroom clean. It was always smeared, even right after I cleaned it. I tried different types of cleaning solution and different things to wipe it with and still it was smeared.
My step-mom is one of those people who always has a clean house, and everything looks wonderful, so I asked her what she used. It turns out that she makes her own cleaning spray and she passed on the recipe.
This stuff is easy to make, does a great job and is economical! I use it on mirrors and countertops. I even spray it on my painted baseboards and all the dust wipes right off.
Cleaning Spray
2 ounces rubbing alcohol
2 ounces clear ammonia
12 ounces water
Pour each ingredient into a spray bottle and lightly shake to mix.

Thanks for the tip. Smudged or streaked windows and mirrors is something that really bothers me.
ReplyDeleteTry using crumpled newspaper as your rag. It works wonders!
ReplyDeleteWorks for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Vinegar works really well for me to produce a streak-free shine.
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law used to use this very 'recipe' for her windows and mirrors. She used newspaper for a wipe cloth when doing the windows...they were so clear and clean you could see for 'miles'.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip to share.
Thanks Mari I needed one!
ReplyDeleteThanks, will do. I can now use my Windex to remove rings from my fingers, it's works great.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Mari! Thanks so much for this cleaning spray recipe. I'm definitely going to try it. Have a great day. Blessings, SusanD
ReplyDeleteNow tell me how to keep my kids from putting their grimy hands on everything. LOL!
ReplyDeleteSmiles!
I could relate to your frustration with the mirrors having that blasted streak after cleaning them. What do you use to wipe off the spray from the mirror though? Do you use newspaper too?
ReplyDeleteVery practical and easy. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMari,
ReplyDeleteMy mom uses this recipe and her windows and mirrors always look great! I just use a microfiber cloth and a little water, no dust, lint or cleaner required.

I think even I can do that! :-) Thanks for the tip. I'm saving that recipe in my e-mail too.
ReplyDeleteSuper! My mirrors always look filmy too, drives me nuts. I making a batch of this tomorrow..there's always tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteKim - I just use paper towel to wipe down the mirrors after I spray them. I tried newspaper, but it got my hands dirty and didn't seem to wipe it well.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure this is the same "formula" my aunt uses and it's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHugs!

Thats simple enough, I'll have to try it.. thanks
