Spare room clean up!

So - we have a spare room that I call my scrapbooking room, Bob calls it the office, but what it often is, is a mess! We have a computer and printer in it, along with 2 large tables to work on. Here's where the problem is. Those tables seem to ask for things to be put on them. If I have things I'm planning to send to Andy, I bring them in here. If I have something that needs to be returned to someone - this is where it goes. On top of that, if we are working on something, it is spread out here too, and soon it looks like a mess.

Monday, I was working, but Bob had the day off. Heather was home in the morning and the two of them did some cleaning. They sorted through the things on the tables and then Bob had a brainstorm.

This is the closet in the room. Bob decided to take this old dresser that was sitting in the basement doing nothing, and put it in the closet. It gives a place to put the scrapbooks on, but it also gives us drawers to store things. One drawer is for things waiting to be sent to Andy, one is for scrapbook pages being worked on. Another is for other projects in the works.
Good idea, don't you think?

Just to show you that Bob works in this room too, here are some of his carvings that he is in the process of painting. He's getting ready for a craft show at church.

  2. It is so much fun to be able to use items from one room to make the other room look nice. It is great to have an extra room for all the "stuff". Bob's carvings look great too. Can't wait for the church craft show.

  3. dressers in the closet are a great idea...I think it enlarges a room's spaciousness nicely...that's what we had to do in our bdrm...which I hope to show you during that open house...I hope to have soon!

Okay, you were a smarty. Or maybe I should say Bob and Heather were smarties. That dresser was a really good solution. Great job!

  10. Mari,

You have such a wonderful daughter and hubby that would tackle that task so efficiently together and make your day! How wonderful. The dresser idea is perfect! I love how it fits in the closet too!

I agree that you should do a giveaway with those adorable carvings or set up an Etsy store and sell them.

  19. Mari,

The dresser in the closet is a wonderful idea. It will help keep things organized but tables seem to be catch-alls. My kitchen table is an old oak one that was Grandma's. It catches everything. I must clean it at least twice a day.

Love Bob's little carvings. I'm sure he'll do well at the craft fair.

Enjoy your weekend, my friend. Hope you are off.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  22. You had better love on that man for taking initiative and helping you organize. My precious husband is a pack rat and I'm constantly on him to sort, sort, sort!!!! Love him dearly, but he has a hard time organizing.

Hats off to Bob and Heather!

  24. Very good idea , I wish I had a room like that with a closet . I really don't have any closets in my old home . I hung a closet unit on the wall of our bed room like you would in a closet and that works . They did good .
I really enjoyed going through that huge home . Couldn't believe they had so much modern things way back then .
Please pray for my daughter , grand daughter and our school kids , Band and chorus . They left last night around 11:30 Pm after the game for Washington D C . Hoping and praying they are having a safe , fun trip .
    Thanks , Mary

  30. I have a similiar room that we called the craft room for the first couple of years we lived. Now I call it the spare room and my husband usually calls it the crap room (he thinks he's so funny). we've talked about making it a sitting room but I somehow can't get beyond just throwing stuff in there. It would take a lot more work than what your husband and daughter did to yours. I clean it out about every 6 months or so...I'm just about due now!
