One of my favorite songs is 'It is Well'. It's a song that has such a great message, which is made even more meaningful when you know the story behind the song.
Neat video. I've read this guy's story- modern day Job. The song is full of submission to a loving God- the author and finisher. May I be so filled with faith.
One of my favorites for the same reason. When you really listen to the words after you know the story it really is quite moving and amazing, especially knowing how quickly he wrote the song.
Mari, this is a favorite song from my growing up years but I never knew the story behind it. Thank you for sharing it. From now on, when I hear or sing this song, I will forever think of the Stafford family and how strong in the Lord they were. Amazing!
Oh my goodness....wow, just wow!!! You really made a great post. It's so strong in it's simplicity ---and just having the video/song playing....wow, just wow!!!!
I remember the day I read the story behind this soong..I cried the entire time. Seems some of the greatest songs ever written were born of such suffering. A little side note...I was singing this song to myself throughout the day yesterday...I love it.
This has always been one of my favorite hymns. I love the 4th verse - the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend! Gives me chills just thinking about it. I can't wait to see that happen!
So many years I sang that song without knowing the story behind the song. Then when I heard the story, I was so amazed at the message. Thank you for posting it.
Several years ago I came across the story behind this song and now can't sing it without tears...

ReplyDeleteA story one should never forget.
i'm constantly amazed by unselfish people who can put themselves outside their circumstance to see God's plan for them.
ReplyDeleteNeeded this in a HUGE way today...maybe my mustard seed?
