Memorial Day is observed in the United States on the last Monday of May every year. It was first observed in 1873. Recently there have been concerns that it has just turned into another 3 day weekend. I must admit that if I have the day off, I often think it's a great time to plant flowers. Americans are being asked to stop what they are doing at 3:00pm on Monday, and pause and reflect for one minute on the sacrifices of our veterans and those currently serving to protect our freedom.
We owe such a debt to those who died, served in years past and to those currently serving. I so appreciate those who are serving now, whether they are stateside or overseas. Of course I especially want to thank my son. I'm proud of you, Andy. Thanks for what you do!

We have no clue of all the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom. Very grateful indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to think of it as a 3 day weekend- it really makes you think differently when you have family serving. I am so grateful to live in the US- I like the idea of pausing at 3 to remember all the sacrifices that were made to allow us all our freedoms.
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful to all the men and women who have served and are serving our country. I am indebted to their sacrifices, including Andy's. Hope you have a great day, Mari.
ReplyDeleteWell that's the first I've heard about the 3:00 silence. Thank you for that bit of information!
ReplyDeleteI am having a guest blogger tomorrow on my Prayerfully Yours site. She is a Military wife and mother of two military sons. I would be honored by your presence and support of her.
Be blessed,
Jennifer
I dont like the fact that I was included in that post. I do not deserve any recognition. All I have done is go through some training and hang around in Korea. It's the soldiers who died that deserve the respect.

ReplyDeleteMari, we will remember! Thanks for telling us about the 3:00 pm observance! We are going to the parade in Jenison this morning. My kids always laugh at me because I cry when the veterens go by!
ReplyDeleteRemembering Andy today and the choice he has made to serve for us.
ReplyDeleteI am remembering and praying for those families of the fallen. I am also praying for all who are serving now. Blessings

Today is more then just a day off work or a BBQ. We need to remember the reason for memorial day. All the sacrifice that has been and continues to be made by our military...sometimes the ultimate price of their precious lives.
ReplyDeleteMay God continue to bless this nation and keep our military strong and safe.
Andy, you DO deserve to be part of this tribute...you ARE the military and we thank you.
Amen! I'm so proud to be an American. A BIG thank you to all who serve, including your Andy!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a safe and wonderful Memorial Day. There's a great video at the end of my last post honoring our "warriors". It's worth watching.
Hugs!
Kat
Happy Memorial Day to YOU!☺
ReplyDeleteThanks to Andy and to my nephew Andy who is in Afghanistan (and of course everyone else). We appreciate you!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mari, I am finally back and getting around to visit my friends.
ReplyDeleteWe did have a beautiful day today, but we didn't grill or have any parties. We did spend a lot of time talking to neighbors and friends and planting flowers.
I never heard about the 3 o'clock time of remembrance, but it is a wonderful thing to do. It is because of all the soldiers now and in the past that we can enjoy such a day of freedom. I will write to Andy and tell him.
Mari,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to our men and women in uniform. I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day.
Blessings,
Mary
