Ice Wave

This is from an e-mail I received. I thought this was really interesting and wanted to share it.

Michigan has had the coldest winter in decades. Water expands to freeze, and at Mackinaw City the water in Lake Huron below the surface ice was supercooled. It expanded to break through the surface ice and froze into this incredible wave.

I've seen pictures of this wave phenomena in Antarctica, but in Michigan? Yes, it's been quite a winter! However, the sun has been shining this week, and the snow has been melting! Spring is on its way.

  1. Seriously, is this in your neck of the woods?!?

I was thinking of putting some pictures on my blog in the near future of our kids jumping in our pool this last week.

    I would look a bit 'spring arrogant', wouldn't I?

    Love you! Joanne

  2. Looks incredible. Wouldn't want to be standing there when it melted though unless I had a super huge surf board (and the ability to surf too!)

  3. Amazing!! I guess it would also be spring arrogant of me to tell you that I had my ac on today:) By the way, I think you have told me how to add awards to my blog but can you e-mail that info to me again? I'm trying to get my blog in order, as you can probably tell from my makeover. Thanks!!

  5. I also wondered if that was really from here.
It's pretty cool though- even if it isn't exactly what we thought it was in the email.

  6. I got this email from my aunt in lower MI (we're from the Yoop). I was pretty sure it wasn't local and found the Snopes link showing the hoax. But I'm still glad I got the email, because when I Googled Michigan Ice Wave, I found your blogs and have now bookmarked them. Happy coincidence? I think not. Gently being led to a place I can learn and grow? I'm sure of it!

Reading all the way to the bottom, it mentions the part about this being said to be Michigan.
