Snow in Heaven?

Sunday morning I drove to church separately from Bob, as he had things to do in the second service. The drive was just beautiful, snow was covering everything. The trees were covered, the roofs were white, even the road was not showing through. Snowflakes were gently falling down in front of me. Then I had a song pop into my head - I'm sure you all know it:
This world is not my home,
I'm just a passin' through,
My treasures are laid up,
somewhere beyond the blue,
The angels beckon me,
from heavens golden shores,
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore!
So - there I was, driving through the snow, singing this song! It made me think of how often I admire the beauty in nature. For me it is one of the ways in which I am able to worship and praise God the best. I am so often amazed and awed by what God has created for us to live in and enjoy. I then thought - "What about Heaven? Will there be snow there?" It's not something I ever thought of. When I think of Heaven, I think of a beautiful city, blue sky, green grass and rivers. I don't like to be cold so I think of Heaven as being the perfect temperature. But - God created snow. It is beautiful, so maybe there will be the beauty of snow without the cold temperatures! I know that it doesn't really matter. When I get there, I certainly won't be concerned about snow. I started thinking about what we do know about Heaven:
There will be no tears, no pain, no sin.
We will have new bodies (sounds good to me!)
We will have perfect health.
There will be no fighting and no wars.
There will be a crystal clear river
and a tree of life.
There is a beautiful city,
with pearly gates and a street of gold.
I'll get a crown and will praise God with others!
There's no fear and no sorrow.
I'll see friends and family that have gone on ahead.
Isn't that exciting? And that's only just the beginning. So, for now, I'll just thank God for this beautiful world and all the things he has created in it. And - I'll continue to thank him for sacrificing his Son to allow us to join Him in Heaven, when the time comes. I'll be there - I hope you will be too!

  2. Just last night at church our pastor made the commend that "wonder will produce worship." That is the first thing I thought of when I read your post !! You wonder at the beauty of nature and as a result ... you worship the Creator !! I loved this post Mari ... and you know, it's cool knowing that, even if we never meet here ... we'll meet there ! Wonder if there will be blogs in heaven ?! ha ha

  4. Mari, you are getting so poetic, wonderful thoughts on this post... It was beautiful this morning but the batteries in my camera were dead so could get any pics. I like Bonnie's thoughts that if we don't ever meet here we will in heaven!!!

  5. I love that old song...my longing for heaven is stronger every day. My cousin's 25 year old son passed away this week - his painful battle with cancer over and now he is free from suffering.
Snow in heaven? Boy, I kinda hope not! LOL!

  6. I had the same feeling yesterday, actually all weekend! Just seeing the beauty in the falling snow! I've been thinking about the gifts and signs God give us in creation. I just may have to blog about it! Thanks for the wonderful post Mari, and yes I remember that song! Don't you love the way he helps you recall songs at just the right time!

  7. I loved your post, but I cannot figure out for the life of me, why I didn't see it last night after you posted it around 4 PM. It must take longer to get to PA. Ha! Ha!

I cannot imagine how beautiful Michigan is with snow covering the pine trees. Snow on Pine Trees is the most beautiful pictures.

Heaven? I have a longing to go there. I want rid of this sinful body. I want to be in the presence of JESUS. I want to be like John. I want to lay my head on his shoulder. I want to lay this burden down.

I love your song and I love your words. I love that you sang it while looking at beauty. I usually think of that song when things are not so beautiful. Ha! Ha! I try to encourage myself with the song, thinking that I am not always going to be here going through this. As a matter of fact, I told my hubby just last week, that I feel like I am a stranger in a foreign land. He said, "That is the way we are supposed to feel! We don't belong here."

    Anyway, I loved your post!

  8. I can agree with you on the statement of heaven having snowflakes minus the cold temp! Why couldn't we experience that this side of heaven?

Love the pictures of the snow. We haven't had snow here in Tokyo in 3 years!

  14. Beautiful! I was just commenting to beloved as that is the kind of snow we have here at the moment! I wouldn't be surprised if there is snow in Heaven - but I'll bet it is warm - cause we have a BIG GOD and he can do that sort of thing you know! LOL!

  15. I just love what you wrote Mari. So often we comment about the beauty of the snow. Although we no longer enjoy the cold I have to say that we are amazed each year to see the snow hanging on trees and the sun sparkle as it's rays hit the snow on the ground. The freshly fallen snow is beyond words.

I'm not quite sure what heaven will be like but praise God we will be enjoying it together!

  17. Mari, I have chill bumps...thanks for the reflective post. I too have found myself wondering what it will be like, but know myself well enough to know that whatever I dream up, no matter how big it is, will be so small in comparison! It is going to be breathtaking, that's all I know.
