On our 3rd day the weather report predicted rain. We were driving to Fishtown in Leland so we started out on time to try to avoid it.
We've arrived and are looking out on the channel to Lake Michigan. There were lots of clouds, and I thought they looked so pretty reflected in the clear water.
Fishtown is a working waterfront that has been part of Leland for 150 years. The pier around these old shanties was restored a few years ago. Some are still used for their original purpose, but many have been repurposed into shops.
On the other side of the channel is this scene. Again, the water was so smooth that the reflections were hard to tell from the real thing!
We walked down to the Leland beach on the pretty path
Look at that sandy beach and the turquois water!
Our next place to visit was the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive which is part of the National Parks System.
I love covered bridges and this is a pretty one.
There were lots of places to pull off and see scenes like this. Can you see the leaves falling here?
There wasn't a lot of Fall color yet, but we saw little pops of color along the way.
Bob saw this as we were driving, so we stopped and walked back. This is an Indian marking tree. They took young saplings and bent them over, then back up, so as they grew, they pointed the direction for a trail. So neat to see!
This was the view from another scenic pull out. There are 2 lakes shown here.
This area is near the Sleeping Bear Dunes - so much sand!
And here's the view from our condo when we got back. We had a little rain on the drive, by evening it was getting cold and raining.
We were thankful that we had good enough weather to enjoy most of the day.
What a picturesque place to spend a few days. :-)

ReplyDeleteThese photos are just gorgeous. Each and every one!!! I especially liked the reflections in the water.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo you got of the actual leaves falling and floating thru the air! And the wonderful reflections. In the first photo, it really looks like the clouds are on the ground.

Looks like you had an amazing day in Fishtown! The reflections in the water are stunning, and I love the history behind those old shanties. The beach looks so inviting, even with the rain coming in! The covered bridge and Indian marking tree are super cool finds.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures. Loved the reflection ones. Our state has so much beauty around it if we just go and see it. Was that the tunnel of trees route you took? I want to drive that route some day. Janice
ReplyDeleteFishtown is such an adorable town! I loved the quaintness of it. Again, it reminds me of parts of Maine. I also loved the Indian marking tree! What an ingenious way to mark a path! I'm glad you had good weather for the majority of the day.
ReplyDeleteI love the shot of the clouds in the water. I love the fishing town. The sand dunes. The bridge. The aqua blue water!! The two lakes. What a heavenly place.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the covered bridge.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous place and area to enjoy a break away.
ReplyDeleteYou were fortunate with the weather.
Those reflections photographs are just so beautiful.

ReplyDeleteA beautiful place. I loved seeing the photos! I'm glad you got to spend some time there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place and beautiful photos. I love covered bridges.
ReplyDeleteI never knew that part of Michigan was so beautiful! When we lived in Troy, we never got to see much of the rest of the state, and Troy isn't really all that exciting. I would love to visit these places you have shown. Really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming town - I'd never heard of Leland. And I've been to Sleeping Bear Dunes - so beautiful!! You have such a lovely state. :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos look like paintings, Mari!! Beautiful scenes and you have a great photographer's eye!!
