It's not good bye, it's see you later...

Last weekend, Bobs stepdad passed away. He had Alzheimers disease, and had been in a nursing home for several years.  He was 88 years old and was ready to go to be with his Lord.

Roger had been part of our family for 33 years and was the only Grandpa our kids knew from that side of the family.  Bobs Dad died at 52 and Rog's wife was only 49 when she passed away.  Both Rog and Bob's mom were married to each other for longer than they were married to their first spouses.

He was a wonderful guy, very calm and easy going.  He was truly a blessing to our family.  His obituary said he loved his step-family as his own, and it's true.  Another thing mentioned by many was his great attitude and thankful nature.  Whenever we visited him, he would tell us how what good care they took of him and how blessed he was.  Several of the staff members mentioned that in notes to the family; that he was a joy to take care of because of his sweet nature.

His funeral was Thursday and it was a very nice service, with sadness but also the joy of knowing where he is now; no more dementia, vision or hearing issues!

Bobs mom has been gone for 2 years now, this marks another change in the family. We are so thankful to have had him in our lives!

Here is a link to his obituary.

  2. I am so very sorry. I have personal experience with Alzhelimer's, and it is a horrible disease that robs people of their identity. Your post is a lovely tribute to Roger. Blessings to all of you, I know he will be missed so much.

  11. I'm sad to hear this Mari, but as you said he is with the Lord now. Dementia is a terrible way to live, Dad had it and it was so very very sad.

    May he rest in peace.

  20. He sure sounds like he was an amazing and loving caring man. With each year that passes by, I feel I understand more and more about how very precious our relationships in our lives are. Each day with our loved ones truly is a gift. How wonderful that Bob (& all) had dear Rog in their lives for so long. And you're so right - it's not goodbye. Just catch up with you later. I hope knowing that brings comfort to your hearts. Thanks for sharing! Hugs and love to you all. xoxo

  23. Always sad to lose a loved one and he sounds like he was a great one. But we do know something better waits for us. Two young women I know lost their newborn babies. One 4 days ago and one in August. So terribly sad. Little Maeve was 63 days old and little Mesa did not live but a few days. Those are really hard losses as we know very well. One of our favorite TV stars Angela Lansbury passed away today at age 96. Her children said she passed away in her sleep and had not been ill. She was quite a grand lady and we loved her murder mystery series.
You write a beautiful tribute Mari. Gentle hugs across the miles and many prayers for the family.
